Love the tree. It reminds me of a truffula tree from Dr. Suess's "The Lorax" one of my favorite children's books.

Congrats on the job. Good luck. I hope it's what u want.

February 3rd 2007 ~ day 34

Typical Gal Day's Out today!
Met up with my best friend this morning and kept her company while she was at the tanning salon. Then went home and did my hair (I'm naturally wavy...).
This afternoon I went shopping, seeing as I had to buy some suitable clothes for work. There are sales going on right now, so I managed to get a few great bargains! BellaGaia would be proud, I'm sure!
I got a pair of dark brown pants, a suit and a wool top...(not a sweater, more like a shirt... hard to describe). Its fun to go shopping with your mom's credit card! I'm going to be broke 'till march 15th (we get paid on a monthly basis here in Italy), so she kindly put up the funds in advance for me!

Then tonight, we had a girl's night out... nothing too wild, just out for a drink at a pub fairly close to where I'll be working! It was fun to point out and say "See that big huge modern building? I'll be working there starting Monday!!"

This is my best friend Francesca.

dream mode

I have to admit, I am loving this "Slow Synchro" flash feature on my camera... it makes everything look dreamy!

Yeah, that's cool--I noticed Francesca's pupils are wide open. I wonder if that's due to the slow-sync...

It's great when you're able to sleep in... I got up at about 12.30pm
I pretty much did nothing all day... TV, PC, sims2.... more TV.
Only useful thing I did was take the measurement in order to hem my pants for work tomorrow. I get to dress nice in my new suit!
YAY!!

February 5th 2007 ~ day 36

First day at my new job today.... boy I was psyched!! I woke up about an hour and a half before my alarm s supposed to go off... can you tell I was eager and excited??
Everyone was really kind to me, the girls I'm working with are really nice, everyone is friendly and the boss seems cool.
It's a nice young environment and things seem to run smoothly.

I didn't really do much at all toady. They pretty much just showed me around, showed me the ropes, introduced me to all the who's who and whatnot.... I pretty much got paid to "warm up the chair" as we say in Italian!
I think I'm going to like it there!!

Everything is so colourful in my office!! It just puts you in a great mood, as soon as you walk in the door!
I think a happy and friendly work environment is so important. It causes less stress and makes concentrating easier.... that's what I think anyways!

Today was another easy day. I have to admit, I feel bad for just sitting around and not doing much. I feel so helpless and dumb!
I did some test exercises on their software I'm learning... it's not really hard... it's just a matter of getting the hang of their codes and abbreviations and such...
What's keeping me from actually doing any work is that for now my desk is in another room, just next door to the other PAs... so I have to keep going in and out to see what they're doing and get the hang of this. They still need to set up my phone and add some content on my pc.... but they'll get round to it soon enough...
For now, I'm observing and absorbing like a sponge!

I had to wait 'till almost everyone was gone to take these shots (I stay back later than most people anyways)... I'd probably get fired if they knew I was taking pictures!! I'm sure there's lots of competition that would love to get their hand on inside info!

February 7th 2007 ~ day 38

I did some walking around my office today, during my lunch break.
I know the area pretty well... but really only ever pass through there at night, seeing as it's a busy "night life" location... lots of clubs and restaurants in the area.

During my walk today I discovered the Rome War Cemetery. I'm not sure exactly who's buried in it, if only allie soldiers (American and British) or Italian as well... or even more than just soldiers.
Unfortunately the main doors were locked but I was able to peek inside, through the gate.
I can't believe I never knew such a beautiful place existed! Well I mean, nothing "nice" about a cemetery, after all it means people died... but the building, the memorial and the grounds were just amazing!

Rome still has hidden treasures to be found... I am always amazed at how much hidden beauty there is to uncover!

Very interesting, I tried to find some more data on the net :

Rome War Cemetery lies alongside and within the Aurelian Wall of the ancient city of Rome. It is reached from the Piazza Venezia, the centre of Rome, by going down the Via dei Fori Imperiali, past the Coliseum, and along the Viale Aventino as far as the Porta San Paolo. Before reaching this gate and the monument Pyramid of Caius Cestius, take the road to the right along the wall of the so called Protestant Cemetery, in which are buried the poets Keats and Shelley. Across the road at the far end of that cemetery will be seen Rome War Cemetery, on Via Nicola Zabaglia 50, Monte Testaccio. Alternatively, take the metro and get off at Piramide Metro Station, which is close to Rome War Cemetery, on Via Nicola Zabaglia 50, Monte Testaccio.

On 3 September 1943 the Allies invaded the Italian mainland, the invasion coinciding with an armistice made with the Italians who then re-entered the war on the Allied side. Progress through southern Italy was rapid despite stiff resistance, but the advance was checked for some months at the German winter defensive position known as the Gustav Line. Operations in January 1944 landed troops behind the German lines at Anzio, but a breakthrough was not achieved until 18 May when, after fierce fighting, Cassino finally fell to the Allies. Rome was taken on 3 June as the German withdrawal continued. The cemetery was started shortly afterwards and was used mainly for burials from the occupying garrison, but a few graves were brought in from the surrounding country, and some soldiers and airmen who died as prisoners of war in Rome are also buried there. Rome War Cemetery contains 426 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.

ww1cemeteries.com/othercemeteries/rome_war_cemetery.htm

And by the way I am back. Pictures will be posted in a few minutes.

Pretty much a straightforward day today... not much happened. Still shadowing at work... I'm picking up more info and "stuff" every day. Trying to fit in... blah blah, you know...

I have to say it's hard getting used to being at work for 8 hours... not complaining, just adjusting... I'm pretty tired when I get home! I think I'm starting to feel old! Hahah...

Anyways, I really didn't take time to shoot any decent pictures for today's entry... so, one last thought before I go to bed...

"Good night!!"

Good night!

In case you're wondering the time on my alarm clock is wrong, I unplugged it by accident... I have to reset it now, before turning out the lights!

@ satrina: even though it's for one, it is!

@ lramiro520, MarySesami: thanks you!

@ AliThinks: indeed the duvet cover is from Ikea, but the bed frame isn't... it was bought in the UK a long time ago

@ magpie33: thanks

@ ebilflindas: thanks, I believe it's an antique... not sure what period, but my mom bought it for me when we were still living in the UK.

I don't know. I think that is quite a decent photo. Love the IKEA duvet cover.

I guess those 8 hour days really are cramping your photos ops. You are a couple of days behind.

See you soon, I hope.

thanks... I'm not sure if you saw the others, but I tried so hard to take a bit of an artistic shot... (given that I am limited to a simple camera and no creative lighting..). I had to make up for not posting one yesterday!
*hangs head in shame*
