I went for my 2nd round of allergy tests today. Luckily, the reactions weren't as bad, though my arm is still itching like a bitch!
Seeing as I got there a bit early, I thought I'd take advantage of the extra time on my hands and take a few pictures.

I love the fact that we still have "mom & pop" market stalls, with vendors who bring in their own grown produce.
The smell coming from these stalls was yum... except for the fish stall.... eeeew!

I mentioned that apartment building is being renovated right? Yup, time the building had a face lift!
As great as that is, the scaffolding takes away a lot of light from our windows. That sucks... I, like any plant, live off sunlight...
Luckily the trees outside are starting to spring new buds and leaves.
The greenery is much needed to hide the gloom of the scaffolding!!

Ah, a red Easter egg, just like a Greek one. And yesterday's street market looks remarkably like the laiiki agora (street market) that we have in our neighbourhood every Friday. Greece and Italy have so much in common. And they are such a rich source of interesting photos.

April 15th 2007 ~ day 104

Today was a good day.
I spent some quality (phone) time with my fiancé. (*sigh*)
I got an unexpected invite to go for a stroll downtown (it was a gorgeous warm sunny day).
I got another invite from some other friends to go for the typical Italian Sunday evening "Aperitivo".
I had fun on all counts.
It's on days like this that you realize that it really doesn't take much to make you happy...

I remembered to take my camera with me today, so while downtown, i was able to take a lot of great shots. Well... I think they're great, anyways!

Seeing as I haven't taken decent portraits in some time, today's photographic highlight f the day is this portrait here.
Everyone meet Francesco. He's a great subject to shoot. He's very photogenic.

Please be sure to take time to see the outtakes, especially if you're interested in seeing the beauties of the center of Rome (what others call "downtown, we Italians call "the town or city center").

Sorry I haven't been by so much lately--it's easy to let a few days slip away, but then catching up gets harder and harder to do! I saw some magnet strips today and thought of you (remember--making moo cards into magnets?) I'd love to send you some if you can't find any!

awww!! Moo, those magical moo cards!!!
I traded most of them, rather than giving them to people who needed my contact info! Hahahah
I still have no magnets though.... never did find that magnetic tape!

Well, lramiro520 my happiness didn't come without a bit of "pain". I had a heart to heart with a friend of mine... I did a bit of introspection and didn't like what I saw.
There's a lot of things I need to change about myself and it's not easy. Surprisingly, though, this soul searching put me in a good mood the next day, rather than make me feel bad for all the stuff that in me needs fixing.

I was bust working away in the office, when I decided to look up from my computer and take a break. As I got up, I noticed this really curious thing.
The sun shining in from the window behind me on my left, as casting a really curious shadow...
Can you tell what it is?

shadow of a dolphin on my wall

We have one of those decorative jelly/sticky "thingies" that sticks to windows and mirrors. It's a purple dolphin.
I was so in awe as I saw this little dolphin shadow swim across the wall. Within a matter of minutes it was gone!
Boy was I glad I captured it in time!
sunshinecity 11 years ago
I know, doesn't it? It's the biggest one of the lot, reminds me of fisherman and lighthouses... dunno why!
Glad you liked! <3

April 22nd 2007 ~ day 111

It has been a gorgeous week end!! The weather has been so warm!! Summer really seems only days away! *Breathes in the warm air* Ahhh!!

Today was a wonderful lazy sunday! Sunday is the day for satellite re-runs. I got to catch up on all the tv shows I missed during the week (Yes, I'm addicted to a few shows. I'm a girl, I have my vices!) I spent half the day on the couch!

Anyways... we have (well my mother really, I guess) this wonderful little collection of silver knick knacks ... when I go on holiday and I can find something cute enough, I always bring a tiny object back to add to the collection.
Sometimes you just overlook the detail of some of those tiny objects, but if you look closely, you'll see there's so much detailed work!

Great pipe collection.. I like that meerschaum pipe- the white one.. I went through a phase when I would smoke pipes in an attempt to avoid my horrible cigarette addiction.

And that's an awesome shot of the little figures!

Heheh!

This reminds me of a story I heard a couple of years ago, from an American pastor who lived in the same town as me in France. He was from South Dakota (or Nebraska, or Iowa, or some other similar state), and for some reason we got to talking about stuff we did as youngsters. In his hometown, the teenagers did something called "riding the dryers."
One person would get into the huge dryer at the laundromat, and the others would turn it on. Riding the dryers! HA!

When he told me this story, I was bent over with laughter, and when he finished, we said at the same time, "Better than drugs."

In my hometown, we were so bored we'd drive around. Every so often, we'd stop at McDonald's to see who was there. Riding the dryers seems so much more exciting to me. :-)

April 24th 2007 ~ day 113

Tomorrow is a holiday here in Italy, so it very much feels like a Friday.
I went to the movies with one of my flickr friends, Gargattina tonight.
We were originally supposed to go to dinner with other Flickrites, as we like to call them, but we really weren't in the mood. I barely know them, so we decided to make our own plans and go see a movie.
We saw Wild Hogs, which I have to say, even if dubbed in Italian, was pretty damn funny!

Before the show, we grabbed some dinner at the "American Style" diner in the cinema complex....

As I mentioned above, today wsa a national holiday here in Italy. It's Liberation Day, which originates from the end of WWII in Europe.
It's a pretty big day here in Italy and there are often military and civil festivities: parades, rallies and other things to see and do.
For families, it's a time to enjoy the usually wonderful end of April weather and when this date falls mid the week, as today, it's a chance to enjoy a pause amid the working week!!

As for me... well I went to the park with my friend Francesca, to soak up some sun! Man, was it busy!!

April 26th 2007 ~ day 115

Well today felt like a Monday, after the mid week break, due to the national holiday.
An uneventful day.... but i guess no news is good news, right?

In the desperate attempt to find an interesting subject for my daily photo diary, I stumbled upon an old pic of when I was about 4 or 5.
I am wearing a dress made by my mom... and oddly enough, I loved that dress! Was I really ever this small and so cute?

Was I really once this small and so cute?

Please excuse the poor quality... this is a photo of an old photo.

April 27th 2007 ~ day 116

Tonight I went out with Francesca for dinner.
I had promised to buy her dinner, to celebrate my new job, and it's been two months since I've started so I really did owe her!
It's sort of like a tradition here, who ever gets a new job, buys drinks or dinner with their first paycheck... I had some expenses, so I decided to wait 'till my second! (We get pad on a monthly basis here in Italy, rather than every week or two weeks).

After dinner we went for a walk in Trastevere, a fairly old quarter of town. Ir's pretty much the heart and soul of Roman living, for young and old. During the day time the narrow streets and alleys are bustling with businesses, stores, people going to and from places. It's a fairly residential aprt of twon, but at night it livesn up.
There are bars, cafés, pubs, restaurants. Shops are open 'till late, and the great thing is, it becomes a "pedestrian island" as we like to call them here... basically it's an area that is closed off to all traffic, so you can walk around freely and not worry about cars or scooters disturbing your stroll.

It's a very lively part of town, and tourists seem to love it too. It's place where people of all ages come to enjoy their evenings. You often find buskers, street artists, peddlars, people selling just about anything off the sidewalks. It's a whole world of interesting things to see and do, all merged into one place.

There saw a fire eater doing a show in the main Piazza tonight ... while all the crowd was gathered to watch, and all the tourists taking photographs, I was more concerned with taking a photo of the Basilica behind the crowd. Tjhe same phot I took is featured in Wikipedia!!!
