For the "Dolce" effect your last action is to go to the light/contrast filter and play with it 'til it looks right (do it on the bottom layer first), and have a try with the top layer on "Soft Light".
For LOVE, after all those years...i'm still clueless!! ;-))

Italy: the making of - part I

Want to know the secret to Italian beauty?? There are three basic ingredients that are part of our heritage that make us so unique and special... it's a secret, but I'm going to be very generous and share this wisdom with you all, so cherish what I tell you and use it wisely.

We are who we are today thanks to, tomatoes, olive oil and sunshine.
Age old ingredients that have been with us for centuries....

Today I bring you tomatoes...

Italy: the making of - part I

I'm going to try and show you the other two in the days to come. Let's hope it's a sunny week end!

Italy: the making of - part II

This secret ingredient makes everything turn better!
It was so precious many centuries ago, that to drop an amphor containing olive oil was considered bad luck and a great misfortune, also economically, as it was very expensive.

As well as being very nutritious and low in cholesterol, it also helps keep our internal plumbing working!

Love the olive oil bottle. We have great olive oil also, generally produced by our Palestinian neighbours or the Israeli arabs. Olive trees are important in the Arab culture, it determines the possession of a field (according to ancient rules in the Arab world, if you plant olive trees in an open field it becomes yours).

(Didier 2007 )
sunshinecity 11 years ago
As much as I love olive oil, I'm allergic to the pollen from it's trees... incredible huh?? You'd think it wouldn't affect my much living in a big city, and you'd be right... but as soon as I go in the country, it's hell to pay!! I'd be sneezing and getting itchy eyes... not a pretty sight and definitely not enjoyable for me!

I went to the movies tonight... I saw The Good German, with George Clooney and Cate Blanchett.
I have to say that I was expecting a bit more...
The cinematography, the direction and the "mise en scéne" were magnificent, but the plot was rather disappointing. There wasn't that much intrigue and the ending was a bit of a let down.
Oh well... life goes on!
bunæn PRO 11 years ago
So, do you think we should see it, or wait for it to show on cable?

*Googling "mise en scéne" now I don't know what you are talking about.

dda1605 Posted 11 years ago. Edited by dda1605 (member) 11 years ago
Where was the time when you could chose every week between 5-6 Italian movies ? Where are Fellini, Antonioni, Rossellini, V. de Sica, Visconti..(without mentioning all the actors) ?
And the worse thing is that we also lose the local cinema theatres for huge "Cinema Village", "Mega Cinema".......
And by the way, I love the american movies but I am a bit sad we lose the Italian cinema (good we still have Begigni.....and Scorcese :) LoL)

(Didier 2007 )
satrina* 11 years ago
do they only show movies from those companies? And as bunaen asked, is it good?

Satrina: av meg
sunshinecity 11 years ago
Hmm... I dunno. I'd say if you like noirs like the olden days go, but don't expect a great mystery... then again, maybe you'd like it!

Unfortunately those directors are long gone... Italian cinema isn't what it used to be. Today's movies aren't that great.

No satrina*, we also have smaller owned cinemas, not big corporates.. but I have to say I like the big corporate cinema complexes. They're better seated, have more space, more seats, better choice of films and of show times.

I'm surprised to see that Spring is already here, and we haven't even really had a proper Winter. This winter has been so mild. It's hardly rained at all (mind you, we get more rain in march and april I think) or cold. I'm curious to see what this summer will be like!!

Yup, your spring blooms shot is flickr worthy. Very nice.

I agree about the graffiti, it is a shame that sometimes you find it in inappropriate places.
As for Womens' day, it's one of the few holidays that is totally NOT commercial. Did you read the link I posted?

Thanks! I think it turned out pretty well, considering it wasn't very sunny... no photoshop either!

Thank you! Did you see my other one?

I did, and it partially confirmed what I think : In the West, it lost its political meaning and became a day similar to Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day (which are, I hope you'll agree, very much commercial).

However, I liked this part (although I believe it is true for a minority) : The political and human rights theme as designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

That's ideally what it's about.... the rest of the commercial context is futile, I agree.

i spent International Women's Day in reflection my friend Lola spent it in thought. it's a day to celebrate self-empowerment and personal strength as a gender. as dda says, it's a day that spotlights women and struggles that are sometimes overlooked or ignored on the average thursday.

sunshine, it's cool of you to have brought it up the way you did. you're a good woman, in my book.
