Hooray!

May 15, 2007

Clotilde's cookbook was released today. She is on a US book tour right now, but unfortunately will not be in any cities near us. Fortunately, Allan and I got to meet Clotilde a year and a half ago, when she hosted a party to celebrate her blog's 2nd anniversary, as well as her book deal. This is the culmination of nearly two years of work, and after a few minutes perusing the book, I can say that it's one to treasure.

Also, and yes, I know this is pimpin', I interviewed Clotilde for The Parisian. We spoke on the phone at length, and she was so very gracious. I'm grateful for the opportunity to get to know her a bit!

See Clotilde's photostream here.

JrzySalsa™ on a Chip

May 16, 2007

This is salsa on a chip. No biggie, right? Except this is delicious salsa made by our friend (code name: JrzyTmata) with organic tomatoes, jalapeños, and garlic from her garden.

This is the third time we've been lucky enough to have some JrzySalsa™. It's wonderful. The best part is that we got to share it with friends in the waning sunshine.

A Little Off Today

May 17, 2007

Yesterday I forgot to take my Effexor. Today I felt crappy all day. At first it was emotional, then it became physical. I think it is all the movement from the recent work on the basement. Allan rightly suggested we go to the Arboretum for a walk, and I'm glad he did. We only walked a mile and a bit; we are both out of shape. I haven't been to the gym since January, and I think that is half my problem.

Anyway, I am feeling better now, and really, I snapped this as I was looking at Allan! It's funny, because I was feeling pretty good, but the photo caught my general mood for the day.

Radio Radio

May 18, 2007

While at home, we mostly listen to internet radio. In the car, however, we enjoy Sirius satellite radio. For 12 or 13 bucks a month, we get a wide variety of music with no commercial interruptions. It is great.
The other evening I was grooving to "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club on Sirius 22. So I snapped a photo.

Allan's nephew and his wife are in town this weekend, staying with Allan's sister. The lot of us toured the Woodford Reserve Distillery today. This is a shot of a copper container that sits between the distilling building and the aging building. The light was cool, I thought.
And it was really interesting to learn how bourbon is made.

High Hope Steeplechase 2007

May 20, 2007

We spent the afternoon at the High Hope Steeplechase, a charity event. I wasn't much in a photographing mood, but I got a few shots. This is just about the best one.

I got a lot of sun today, despite trying to stay in the shade, and wearing a hat. My first sunburn of the year. It's making me tired and hot.

Didier, I think Clotilde eats more veggies than chocolate, yes! Then again, she lives in Montmartre, so maybe it's all the walking up and down hills? Satellite radio in the car is great, because commercial radio in the States is crap. Of course, we do have a CD player, but with satellite we get to hear things we don't have on CD! And I am starting to enjoy horse races. I had never been to one before moving to Kentucky, so no, I have never been to the Paris Hippodrome.

Salsa is a definite yeehaw in my book!

Can You Tell I Wore Gloves?

May 21, 2007

I painted today, in case it wasn't obvious. I wore vinyl gloves on my hands. And while I was using a brush, that was fine.

When I started using the roller, however, things got messy. And this in spite of the "splash guard" on the roller!

Oh well. It's not the first time I've gotten paint on myself. And it won't be the last.

Now the priming in the basement is done. Tomorrow, the paint: "Soft White."

Ha ha! I used to live near the beach, but not anymore! We are planning what we Amurricans call a "rec room." Rec = recreation. It'll be a room for my art supplies, some toys like an erector set, Allan's ham radio equipment (which is currently in my daughter's room), a TV + DVD player, books, comfortable chairs, etc. Next to the big room is a smaller room, where we'll put our exercise equipment (which is now in the attic!).

I am totally having fun with this! I've bought bright colors for the molding, And I painted one shelf/bookcase bright pink and another bright green!

Hey, thanks! It's getting to be toe ring season again!

This was the best of three self-portraits I took before going to get my hair done. It was also the only blurry one, go figure. I played with it in Photoshop, too.

Anyway, I think it looks cool, even though my hair was dirty and I was grubby from painting the basement. Yes, I'm still painting. Maybe tomorrow I'll take a photo of my new hair. It doesn't look much different. It's just blonder and neater.

Blue Mask and Orange Trim

May 26, 2007

Blue masking tape and orange trim...

We've been working hard on the basement these past couple of days. It's almost finished. As I write this, all that remains is the stairs and the floor. We need to finish removing some old carpet adhesive from the stairs, and figure out what we want to do with the floor. It is old linoleum, it's in good shape, but there are a few stains, and it reminds me of school. So we are trying to decide what to do: paint it, lay down new vinyl (yuck), lay down interlocking rubber mats, or just clean it and put down some sisal or sea grass rugs.

So Much Things To Say

June 1, 2007

This is part of a glass sculpture on my college campus. This weekend was my 15th reunion, and we went to Pennsylvania for the reunion and to see my family.

Anyway, the campus has changed a lot since I graduated. This sculpture was not there when I was a student. But sometimes change is a good thing, and I can say that most of what's happened on campus has been for the better.

Hi all...

I stopped posting here, because although I was still taking photos every day, I just couldn't deal with posting them here because I'd fallen behind. That sounds lame, I know.

Completing this diary for 2007 was my New Year's "intention" (as opposed to a resolution)...well...I lasted less than six months.

Oh well, on to the next. It's been a pretty good summer, and after spending 7 weeks with my kids (3 in France, 4 in the States), I'm alone with Allan once again. There have been some days these past two months where I have not taken photos, so even if I wanted to catch up, there would be holes in my diary. I never wanted that.

You can of course visit my photostream, but here is the most recent photo I've posted on Flickr. It's a bit fitting that it's a self-portrait, as I started the DPD with a couple of selfies..

Autoportrait

I miss the DPD. Maybe I'll take it up again. I don't know. It's like Life got in the way of this project, even though the project is supposed to be Life.

Kind regards to all...
