- Rules and Info -
1: Size: There are two size limits, one for the Final Dual Category and one for the Ultimate Battle Category.

2: Scale: Entries must be minifig scale. Adding a forced perspective to your minifig scale build is okay, but it’s not what this contest is focused on.

3: Part Usage: Must be made with LEGO products or any accepted Customizer products, e.g. Brickwarriors, Brickforge and Brickarms, however no clone brand products are permitted. No digital (LDD) entries will be permitted.

4: Deadlines: The contest will begin NOW, and the contest will end on September 30th - (This will be judged as midnight in whatever time zone you live in). There will be no extensions to this deadline.

5: New Submissions Only: Entries must be of something new, never before seen on the internet or entered in another contest on Flickr, or displayed publicly at an event, etc.

6: The Theme Restrictions: There are NO RESTRICTIONS on what Theme you build in. However, because of the demographics of the group we are expecting mostly castle/fantasy themed creations, but this won’t make us turn down a cool WW2 or Sci-fi battle! ;)

7: Judging: This will be done by a panel of builders not submitting to the contest. Your entries will be judged by build quality, presentation, and creativity. Results will be posted very soon after the contest ends.

8: Restrictions on Entrants: The contest is open to all old and new members of this group.

9: Number of Entries allowed: Two entries per person per category, and quality is what we are looking for. :)

10: Submissions to the Entry Thread: You can post up to 3 pictures of your creation to the entry thread to show all angles. Only images submitted in the entry thread and before the deadline will be judged. Please make sure you are using the [ ] brackets so that the picture shows in the thread - [pictureaddressfromyouraddressbar] (Admins and Mods can help if you are unsure how to do this, just ask!).

11: Prizes: Each contestant can win up to 1 category prize. The winners get to pick which prize they want in order of placement. The 1st 2nd and 3rd names of prizes are just a suggestion. (“We have to put that on there!”) (1st place picks first, etc.) If someone wins multiple categories, they choose which 1 category they want to “win” and the second highest scoring entry in the specific unwanted category gets the prize pick. All prizes are in like-new condition and come from my (Mark of Falworth’s) personal collection.

12: Removal of Entries: The judges reserve the right to remove any entries that they would deem objectionable.

If you have any questions feel free to ask here!

Have fun!

Sounds awesome! Just a quick question- I just started on a helms deep model a couple days ago, and it's not even close to being finished. Is it okay if I enter the finished product into this contest, even though I started a couple of days early? It would still be a new submission, and never seen before.

Awesome, shall get started soon I think. Of course I have a question ;) , you say WWI and other modern (or futuristic) themes are allowed, but does that mean that sea battles, air fights, and/or tanks and trucks fighting would be good for the ultimate battle category? Or maybe an air duel for the duel category?

All kinds of vehicles are more than welcome in all categories. :) Be aware that the duel category is only 32x32 and big vehicles might be a tight fit.

I'm excited! Looking forward to some last major castle building before the semester resumes.

May I make a suggestion? I really appreciated that the runners of The Summer Joust (who were also InnovaLUG members) put a deadline for the judges to submit their thoughts (I believe it was two weeks).

I respect that people are busy (I know I am), but last year seemed to last a bit too long until the results were posted. Just a polite suggestion!

Thanks again for hosting!!!

Just curious about the final duel. Can you have other figs look on. Like have the two protagonists body guards or friends watch?

Sci-Castle:
Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for the delays last time, but I think we're going to leave it as is and hopefully get the results quickly this time around. ;)

~Tyrant~:
Yep, the duel can even be in the middle of a battle, just make sure we can tell which two are the ones dueling. :)

Classical Bricks:
After mulling it over, it's decided that since you've posted pictures of the creation online before August 1st we can't accept your WIP for this contest. I would have really liked to let it in because it's so close but then I would seem impartial. Sorry. :(

you said that a cool sci fi creation would not be turned down... could I do a scene from a sci fi movie for the final duel category? or are movie scenes forbidden. it would still apply to the category though.

Are we allowed to do more modern day sieges like for example the siege of Leningrad or the siege of Sarajevo? I noticed the siege category is mostly dedicated to walls, catapults, moats etc. and was wondering if any siege past 1900 was allowed.

About the maximum size for the Duel Category: is it obligated to fit on a 32x32 baseplate, or just the same area (1024 studs)?

AK_Brickster is a group moderator AK_Brickster says:

titus.verelst:
I think to keep it easier to compare entries, fitting on a 32x32 is best. We also don't want to have to count how many studs you're using to verify the dimensions are within the 1024 equivalent area.

That doesn't mean you have to build on a 32x32 baseplate, but the dimensions should be no larger than 32 studs in any direction.

Like said, we would rather the creation fit on or inside the dimensions of a 32x32 baseplate. :)

I have a question: for the siege category, could I make a build which is not all connected, yet completely cohesive (like some of the recent ye olde...etc collab builds)? Like, on one irregular base, a catapult, while on another lies the tower?

Mark of Falworth is a group administrator Mark of Falworth says:

W. Navarre:

Yeah, I think that would be fine, no size limits there so as long as it's clear which chunk of LEGO is the main focus you're good. :)

We are now halfway through the contest and I'd like thank everyone who has entered so far!

I've managed to secure a good amount of LEGO sets through the generosity of InnovaLUG and The LEGO Group as prizes!

These will be added to the existing categories making more winners per category. Anyone who submitted an entry before the halfway point is also eligible for these new prizes. :)

Keep on Building!

Is (non-LEGO) string and paper allowed? Also, the lava in my latest build is not in any other shot of the castle when under siege, can I enter that shot as one of three anyway though?

W. Navarre says:

I have a question for the Ultimate Battle category. It says the build must be larger then 32x32, but although my build is much more large then 32x32 (that is to say, counting the studs of the base it's far larger), it won't cover all the studs on a 32x32 due to shaping and things like that. Is that alright, or do I need to fix the base so as to leave no gaps where the 32x32 would be? (I hope you understand this somewhat confusing question)...

W. Navarre:

Sorry we didn't get back to you on that, As long as your moc clearly fit into the spirit of being bigger than a 32x32 it should be fine. The point of the minimum size limit is to prevent tiny builds from being in the big boy category. ;)

ReeseEH:

Glad you made the deadline! :)

OK, the 2016 CBC is officially over. No more entries will be accepted. Thank you so much everyone for the fantastic creations you have put forth! The judges will now assemble and we will hopefully get the results to you very quickly. :)

Until next year!

Holy freaking crap, I didn't enter because it was going to be a lot of work and I didn't think the prizes were worth my 2am efforts but holy crap they were updated. I'm really pissed with myself now not for putting some more effort into my build that was 70% done. Congrats in advance to those lucky winners of the killer prizes.
