TWiT Photo: Guest Quest

The premier photo show in the industry – TWiT Photo – is looking to showcase the hottest emerging photographer. With TWiT network’s worldwide viewership exceeding 5 million monthly downloads, this contest will provide explosive exposure to our selected guest.

You will have the rare opportunity to get your work in front of a prestigious judging panel made up of our past TWiT Photo guests, including Art Wolfe, Zack Arias, Colby Brown, Tamara Lackey and Frank Doorhof. Simply submit a portfolio of images based on a cohesive body of work that is a strong representation of your visual style.

PORTFOLIO PREP
1) Prepare a cover photo showing the title of your portfolio entry and your name (see example in album – link to album)
2) Prepare 15-20 (15 minimum / 20 maximum) images and upload them according to the instructions on “How to Submit”
3) Write a one to two-sentence caption for each individual image.

HOW TO SUBMIT

1) Subscribe to TWiT Photo on iTunes. [bit.ly/tGOeDq]
2) Add CatherineHallStudios as a contact and join my “TWiT Photo Guest Quest” [www.flickr.com/groups/twitphotoguestquest/] group.
3) Share this original post bit.ly/GuestQuestFlickr with your followers on Twitter.
4) Click “Add Photos”.
5) Select your cover photo and 15-20 images
6) Click on the cover photo and fill in the title of your portfolio.
7) Proceed to enter the titles for individual images using this naming convention: Catherine Hall ‘Citizens of Black Rock’ Image #1.
8) Fill in a short one to two-sentence caption for each individual image.

TIMELINE
Deadline for submission : Nov. 22, 2011, at 11.59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (GMT – 7.00) (no exceptions)

Winner announcement : Dec. 6, 2011, on TWiT Photo and Catherine Hall Studios blog.

Hi Catherine! This may be a painfully stupid question...but where exactly do we upload our photos? (I don't have a twitter, so I can't do step 3, if that effects anything..)

I have the same question. I have a twitter account but never use it. Also, in the "Portfolio Prep" section, it says "see example in album" but there is no link. Thanks!

I guess you add them to the group, but adding them doesnt not allow you to title them or add descriptions.

yeah, i don't really get how this works. we upload to the group, but we can't add a cover photo or give descriptions. also, if i've joined this flickr group but *haven't* yet uploaded any pictures, can i still enter the contest through 500px? or will i be disqualified? seems a bit easier to do it on 500px . . .

Hi everyone - I'm so sorry for any confusion, and I apologize for the delay in my response!

1st - If you choose to enter via another platform, you will not be disqualified for an incomplete entry to this platform. Please email assistant@catherinehall.net to let us know that you are no longer submitting via Flickr, and your entry here, if any, will be removed.

2nd - To upload photos to the group:
-Click "Add Photos" next to the "Group pool" heading.
-Select Your cover image and 15-20 photos from your Photostream ( 6 at a time)
-Click "Add to group" to confirm your selections
-Once added, your photos will appear in the Group Pool.
-Click on your chosen cover image in the Group Pool to edit. Add the title of your portfolio in the Title space under the cover photo.
-Click on each of your other photos in the Group Pool to edit. Proceed to enter the titles for individual images using this naming convention: Your Name ‘Title of Portfolio’ Image #1.

I will investigate the missing link and other issues! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Catherine: What if we already have the photos we want to use in our Flickr stream and they have another naming convention due to being part of an existing set? Do we need to upload only brand new photos so that we can rename them? Should I just enter through one of the other services (since I am fairly active on Flickr and don't want to duplicate items in my stream which already have views and comments associated with them). Thanks! -Zac

Any albums that don't follow the steps listed in the contest rules will be disqualified -- this includes the first 3 steps in "How to submit", and the naming convention.

Zac - If you are concerned about renaming or duplicating your photos on Flickr, I would recommend submitting via another platform. Thanks for checking!

Never got a chance to submit due to the craziness of getting stuff off to clients before the holidays, oh well! Best of luck to those that entered! :)
