Precision Image Competition Information and Guidelines

Maine Media Workshops has partnered with Carl Zeiss USA to sponsor the Precision Image Competition “PIC”.

PIC is an opportunity for all 2014 Maine Media Workshops (MMW) students to experience the unparalleled image quality of Zeiss lenses while challenging themselves to create new still and moving pictures for a dynamic competition.

Zeiss provides a wide selection of lenses for still and cine cameras for students to ‘test-drive” while on the MMW campus. Students are invited to submit their work made with these lenses, to the competition in two categories:

•documentary and narrative short films
•still images ranging in genre from fine art to documentary and commercial photography

Grand prize winners in each category will receive a selection of premier Zeiss SLR lenses and a MMW tuition scholarship. Winners will be announced at the Annual Maine Media Party at B&H in Manhattan, Wednesday, October 29.

TO ENTER:

MMW students, across all programs, who are registered for 2014 classes are eligible to submit up to 3 short films (90 seconds in length) and/or 10 images to PIC via the Flickr Precision Image Competition Group.

Images can be submitted after a workshop takes places, provided registration can be verified. All work must be made using a Zeiss lens during 2014. Please indicate which Zeiss lens was used to make the photo or video in the description section.

Submission deadline: October, 3 2014.

Maine Media Workshops reserves the right to disqualify any image with content deemed inappropriate by the moderators.

What counts is that your picture or video was taken with a lens from Carl Zeiss. Participants ensure that they own all rights to the submitted pictures and that the photo was taken with a ZEISS lens.

By submitting your photograph(s) and/or film(s) to PIC, you verify that you own all rights to and have model releases for the submitted work, and that you give Maine Media and Carl Zeiss USA permission to publish your work online at www.mainemedia.edu and www.zeiss.com/; in Maine Media and Zeiss printed publications; in a potential PIC exhibition; at the B&H Manhattan Superstore during the Maine Media Annual Party, October 29, 2014; and in other marketing and promotional materials as determined by Maine Media and Carl Zeiss USA. By entering the contest, you agree to the guidelines stated here and will abide by the decisions of the contest jury, as presented by Maine Media, as final. Cash payment of the prizes is not possible. Employees and family members of the Camera Lens Division of the Carl Zeiss AG, the Carl Zeiss web team in Jena and the companies Storymaker and Points are not permitted to take part in the contest.

If your photo and/or video is selected by the jury as the winner, you agree to grant Carl Zeiss AG irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable rights (without restrictions with regard to time, place and content) to utilize the submitted image as required, in particular to copy, distribute, display, publish and edit it, and to utilize the subsequent results as described. Carl Zeiss AG will conclude a separate user agreement with the winners following the jury’s decision. The usage rights of all other submitted images remains with the corresponding participants.
