Best lenses?

There is a bundle that has 18-55 and 55-200. Right now, I have the Nikon Coolpix L120 but I'm looking into getting the Nikon D3100. Is the D3100 55-200mm good? Approximatly how far does that zoom in?

Most likely too far if anything, the 18-55 is a better all rounder because you can zoom very far away aswell as somewhat close up.

The 55-200 might be way too close in alot of situatons.

I use a 35mm f1.8g personally.

if u have not got d3100 ... think for canon 1100d... the lenses get expensive with the focus motor in them..!!!

I would suggest to go for third party lenses like Tamron 18-200 which is a wide angle plus telephoto lens equally good as Nikkor lens but cost much cheaper compared to Nikon equivalents. The advantage of having this lens with a focal range of 18-200 is that we don't need to change the lens if we switch to shooting wild life or sports from potrait or macro without having to change the lens. You can pick one from ebay.

I have the d3100 with the 55-200mm VR and I love it! Sometimes I wish I had the extra 100mm and had gone for the 55-300mm VR but because the d3100 is 14mp you can crop without losing much quality! :)
