Hello to the new D3100 users in the group. I recently picked up the D3100 as my first DSLR and am having a great time with it. I'm looking to replace the kit lens with something faster and am interested to see what people have been picking up. I already have the 35mm 1.8 and its great, but want something to replace the range of the kit lens.
Any suggestions??

The new 50mm f1.8? Or even better, the 50mm f1.4?

Wedding photographers love their 85mm f 1.4 primes for portraits. At around $1500 they're pricy. I'm saving my pennies for an 85mm f 1.8 prime. it's one third the cost and I only loose 2/3 of a stop.

I have a Tamron 18-200mm lens, which I leave on all the time! I bought it for my D40, but kept it when I traded it in for the wonderful D3100!

I agree with Jainbow, the Nikkor18-200 VR II goes around $800 and you don't need anything else, if you go around taking photos, or vacations, you don't need to switch lenses all the time. The Tamron is a good alternative at a good price.

AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G
but be careful niknon d3100 has one important problem not all lenses work auto focus on it
