I'd say it was more of an impulse buy than an actual researched decision. When I was finally delivered, I had no idea how heavy it actually was. Do any of you have a problem with the weight\camera shake when not on a tripod? Any suggestions on how to avoid it besides the regular stabling methods? Settings?

I don't know about the sigma, but I have the canon version for my 7D. The weight is actually not a big problem, I support the lens with my left left hand and have my right hand on the regular spot. In low light I use the left hand as tripod by holding it firm agains my body.

I have the Nikon version of that Sigma lens I agree it is heavy. I have it hooked up to a Nikon D700 with battery pack and times with a Nikon SB800, it can get heavy. I attached this kit to a Blackstrap sling and carried it for hours. It does wear on you so I carry it on my dominant side and bring it to my eye when needed. Often I rest my arm on my side if I am holding it for long period of time. I viewed a video from Joe McNally on how to hold a camera and lens steady when shooting without support like a monopod or tripod that helped me a lot.
