Film Questions

I'm completely new to film photography, but I was interested in the Diana Mini and recently ordered mine. It's expected to arrive May 23. I haven't gone out to buy any film, but I found a bunch of expired film at home. It's Kodak MAX 400 speed film that expired 02/2002. I'd like to use this film up before buying more, especially while first experimenting and figuring out how to use the camera. Does anyone have recommendations for the best conditions and settings to use this film?

hmm, people say 400 is good, but to keep it on sunny unless its particularly dark, because its a bit fast for the diana. just shoot one of them and develop it to see how it turns out. if its too bright or dark then use slower or faster film. also on your first roll just use the n setting not b, so its kind of a control variable. also if you don't like the film ill be glad to buy some from you :3 another thing, if an object is perfectly centered in the viewfinder, it will be moved left and also up. so aim high and right, or just shoot without using the viewfinder.

oh and shoot your first roll in half frame. its easier on developers and also you maximize your film. i found this chart thing somewhere that maximizes your frames in square format by counting clicks but i can't find it. search around a bit. but don't worry about that, on your first roll just keep it simple and use half frame.

oh and NEVER force the advance knob. if it ever gets stuck then put the lens cap on or press it in your tummy and click the shutter.
