Group DescriptionCelebrating the ships of the state-owned British Transport Commission (BTC) and 'British Railways' (BR) which came into being on 1 January 1948.
Continuing through the establishment of the new British Railways Board on 1 January 1963 and the abolition of the BTC, to the formation on 1 January 1968 of the Shipping and International Services Division.
The SISD ceased on 1st January 1979, the day on which Sealink UK Ltd, a wholly owned company of the British Rail Board, was born.
Then, in July 1984, Sealink UK was sold to Sea Containers and beyond this, another sale, which saw the bulk of Sealink British Ferries' operations pass to Sweden's Stena Line on 31 May 1990 and the dropping of the Sealink brand on 31 December 1995.
