Fern allies (Spore bearing relatives of ferns).
Please NO Ferns. If it looks like a fern then it is not a Fern Ally. Dont post it please.

FERN ALLY GENERA:
Psilotum (Whisk Ferns), Tmesiperis (Fork ferns).
Huperzia (Tassel Ferns), Lycopodium (Clubmosses), Sellaginella (Spikemosses), Lycopodiella, Diphasiastrum, Isoetes, Phylloglossum etc
Equisetum (Horsetails).
and a few other genera.

Group Description

Fern Allies is the general term for three main groups of spore-bearing vascular plants that are not strictly ferns. Recent changes in nomenclature have pretty much lumped most fern allies like Psilotum, Equisteum with the true ferns (Pteridophytes). So now the term Fern Allies, as it was previously known, can only truly be an informal designation. So for practical and aesthetic reasons (they look different from ferns), we will generally stick to the old definitions... which include these genera:

FERN ALLY GENERA:
Psilotum (Whisk Ferns), Tmesiperis (Fork ferns).
Huperzia (Tassel Ferns), Lycopodium (Clubmosses), Sellaginella (Spikemosses), Lycopodiella, Diphasiastrum, Isoetes, Phylloglossum etc
Equisetum (Horsetails).
There are a few more genera... but are mostly subdivisions of the above)

Group Rules

No ferns pics!. No true ferns. Only fern allies.

The term Fern Ally is considered a more informal term now but includes: Horsetails (Equisetum), Whisk ferns (Psilotum), Clubmosses (Lycopodium, Diphasiatrum), Spikemosses (Selaginella), Tassle ferns (Huperzia, Phlegmaria) and some others such as Isotes and Phylloglossum.
Also no true mosses and no liverworts. Ophioglossum is a bit Fern ally-ish ... basically if it looks like a fern it is a fern so it should not be in here but in a fern group. Thanks.
