Group DescriptionThis group is for photos of jewel orchids, which are grown mainly for their spectacularly colored and patterned foliage (though the flowers are often lovely, as well).
Some of the more traditional jewel orchid genera are Anoectochilus, Ludisia (formerly known as Haemaria), Macodes, and Dossinia (the latter two used to be included in Anoectochilus). Goodyera also contains many species that fit the category, even though they have a more limited leaf color palette (mostly white and green).
Other plants classifiable as jewel orchids occur in the genera Malaxis, Cystorchis, Cheirostylis, Erythrodes, and Nephelaphyllum, and doubtless in other genera that I haven't recalled (or don't know...) as I write this description. I'll plan to update the description periodically, and welcome suggested additions.
Please consider adding your jewel orchid photos to the group. Photos of plants that are not in flower are welcome, given the main appeal of this group of orchids, and photos of flowers and entire flowering plants are, of course, also welcome.
Group RulesThis group is for jewel orchids only. Photos of other types of orchids that are added to the group will be deleted without comment.
