Group Description

Open wheel ladder series didn't have a home on flickr. This group is also about CART, indycar, and all open-wheel racing in North America past or present except for the SCCA Can Am series of the late 1970s and 1980s. This group is about the rise, downfall, struggle, and the rebuilding of open wheel racing in North America and of indycars competing outside of North America (Brazil, Japan, Europe).

IMSA sanctions both Star Mazda and Atlantics so some of those top drivers may either continue in road racing (sports cars) or continue in open wheel racing.

I hope Mazda will compete in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series.

Which team will finally get their first IZOD IndyCar Series win in 2010? Dale Coyne Racing got their first win in July at Watkins-Glen in New York with Justin Wilson. It was the team's 558th start in professional North American open wheel racing.

"That combination of American and international talent brought the sport to its greatest racing and acclaim. IndyCar can get there again. But it can't do it without Americans."

Robin Miller: "Portland is a long shot [to return] and, sadly, so is Cleveland but I think it could make a comeback with the right promotion."

about Forsythe/Pettit Racing:

"His [Gerald Forsythe] shop is still open and I know two guys on the payroll who are preparing a Panoz for an exhibition but does that mean he's coming back? Who knows with Gerry, can't predict him."

about Ed's articles from May, 2010

[Comment From Brad: "What are your thoughts on the Ed Hinton ESPN article this week? I don't buy his argument that the sport was doomed when CART was formed and they started adding road courses and foreign drivers...the sport was never stronger than the early to mid 1990s when there were more road courses than ovals."

Marshall Pruett: "Brad -- I didn't read it, but that's way off. CART was doomed when it let the engine manufacturers rule the roost. they poured in more and more money, and when the bean counters had enough, they dropped off."

Robin Miller: "I like Ed, I respect him and he's an excellent writer. But his recollections of the past 20 years aren't exactly what I remember and you are correct, Bernie and Bill France were worried about CART in 1993-95. [John] Cooper was a NASCAR employee who became the president of IMS in the late 70s and made a half-assed try to put USAC and CART together in 1981 with the CRL. Do I think he was the sole reason that TG started the IRL? Hell no, it was John Cooper, John Capels, Bill France Jr., Dick King and AJ."
