A little bit of Old Red Sandstone in a world of Moine Metamorphric rocks. But Geology does give the clue as to why there has been a settelment here since the ice disapeared 8000 years ago. That old red sandstone gives a fertile sweet soil, so an oasis of grass in a desert of peats.
