Fountain Spit!

Fountain Spit!

I went to Olympia, WA today where there is the most wonderful, frivolous, captivating, totally delightful fountain. It is in the middle of a big open space between some building on two sides and a road and, in the distance, the capitol dome. Huge spurts of water fire up in a programmed pattern and then fall back to drain between large cement squares and start all over. I was completely mesmerized with the water at the instant it stopped being a column and turned back into a random pile of water falling. . . but I was looking at the base, just before it hits the ground. My artistic friend/photographer with me pointed out the wonderful top of the spurt. This is one of my shots of that water at the top - after it has stopped being a column of solid water, and has realized that it is on its way back to earth! I am amazed that I could stop these slurps of water in mid air. Absolutely total fun.

Don't usually post more than one shot at a time but this is just too much fun to wait!

Glazed Tracks

Glazed Tracks

With nine inches of snow and half inch of ice frosting - our world turned into a real adventure last week. We are back on the grid now with power on, heat, hot water and wi-fi. Life is wonderful once more!

Winter

Winter

This week has been (hopefully) my rock bottom in photographing. My inspiration and creativity meters have both been in the minus numbers. Hopefully, this is a temporary condition and things will improve shortly. Maybe it is just me being grumpy because of our weather here in Washington State. We have power back on tonight after being out 21 of the last 24 hours. Am hoping it will stick this time. Is extremely devastating to have it out for a couple of days, recover it and then lose it again. Have my fingers crossed now.

Memory Nudgers

Memory Nudgers

Remember when your mom and grandma had doilies and potholders that were works of art?
My mom - and my grandma - were both lace makers. Our house always had string being tied in knots somewhere. Once in a while mom would sell an afghan or some huge project like the Lord's Prayer crocheted in lace. Dad would tell me when I called and I would ask how much she got paid. Dad's answer was always the same - "Just enough to buy more string."
