Sleeping Giant

Sleeping Giant

I shot this on a visit to the Pittsburgh Zoo a few years ago and thought it would be a good candidate for a little processing tinkering and experimentation today.

There are a few texture layers overlayed on this image as well as Nik Silver Efex and Viveza layers. The final step on this was the application of some very low contrast layers to flatting the image a bit. I'm digging the lower contrast, flat, film look lately and that's what I tried to emulate here while still having depth and texture in the image. It's a work in progress.

Warmth

Warmth

Warm tones end a beautiful day on the coast. After the sun had fallen below the horizon, a very warm and almost surreal red, orange and yellow glow fell over the beach.

This was a 2.5 second exposure to capture the 'motion in the ocean.' Shot at f/22, ISO 200.

Wet Feet

Wet Feet

This one is titled 'Wet Feet,' because that is exactly what I got while shooting this frame. I am also pretty sure that this is the same wave that pretty much ruined my tripod by filling it's moving parts with saltwater and sand. It was all worth it though!

The Cliffs of Emerald Isle

The Cliffs of Emerald Isle

Beach erosion has created these 'cliffs' of at least 5 feet high on the beaches of Emerald Isle. They're pretty awesome looking and great to shoot!

The processing image is made a little complex, yet simple at the same time. With my three exposures, I made a tonemapped file to use for the portion of the sky with the sun. I then masked in the 'cliffs' and blue sky of the middle exposure and the foreground sand and water of the lowest exposure. The brightest exposure was discarded.
