Storm Cloud Lake Dardanelle (0003ba)

    Newer Older

A dramatic storm cloud swept across Lake Dardanelle in Russellville AR today leading a thunderstorm into the area. Here it aligned with the steam from Arkansas' ANO nuclear plant's cooling tower.

Wow, beautiful!! I've seen almost the same effect from the coal power plant east of Vernon.

Cooling towers are like weather vanes. You can determine wind direction and even guesstimate humidity levels by the angle and length of the steam cloud. Around these parts, ANO can be seen from 20 miles away, making it a beacon of sorts too.
As long as it doesn't turn into Chernobyl or Three Mile Island, it's great! ;-)
