Het John Hancock Center is een honderd verdiepingen tellend gebouw op 875 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Het gebouw is vernoemd naar de John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, een verzekeringsmaatschappij die bij de ontwikkeling van het gebouw betrokken was, en zich als een van de eerste bedrijven in het gebouw vestigde. Het is een 344 meter hoge wolkenkrabber, ontworpen door structural engineer Fazlur Khan van het architecten- en ingenieursbureau Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Het werd opgeleverd in 1969, en heeft 50 liften. Het is het op twee na hoogste gebouw in Chicago en het op drie na hoogste gebouw in de Verenigde Staten na de Willis Tower, het Empire State Building en het Aon Center. In het gebouw bevinden zich kantoren en een restaurant.

Het observatiedek van het Hancock Center op de 94e verdieping kijkt uit naar het observatiedek van de Willis Tower aan de andere kant van de binnenstad. Een goedkopere manier om van het zicht te genieten is de Signatue Lounge Bar op de 96e verdieping, waar je voor de prijs van een drankje een zicht van zo'n 270° hebt. De 95e verdieping heeft een restaurant genaamd Signature Room, van waaruit men een goed uitzicht heeft over Chicago en het Michiganmeer. Op de 44e verdieping bevindt zich het hoogst gelegen zwembad ter wereld

De Loop is een bovengrondse spoorlijn op een viaduct boven de straten van Chicago, gebouwd tussen 1895 en 1897. De wijk binnen deze ringlijn, het zakencentrum van Chicago, wordt ook wel aangeduid als de Loop.
De lijn volgt een cirkel over Wells Street, Lake Street, Van Buren Street en Wabash Avenue. Er zijn negen bovengrondse stations aan de Loop. Vijf van de acht metrolijnen van Chicago maken van de Loop gebruik.

The Loop (historically Union Loop) is the two mile circuit of elevated railroad that forms the hub of the 'L' rapid transit system in Chicago, Illinois. The Loop is so named because the railroad loops around a rectangle formed by Lake Street (north side), Wabash Avenue (east), Van Buren Street (south), and Wells Street (west). The surrounding area is also known as The Loop community area. Numerous accounts assert that the use of this term predates the elevated railroad, deriving from the multiple cable car turntables, or loops, that terminated in the district, and especially those of two lines that shared a loop, constructed in 1882, bounded by Madison, Wabash, State, and Lake.
However, after extensive research of the issue, transportation historian Bruce Moffat concluded that "the Loop" was not used as a proper noun until after Charles Yerkes' 1895–97 construction of the elevated hub.

five days in Chicago in March 2001, it was cold, very cold & snowing for three days.
After two days walk along a display and packaging exhibition it was time to go out, exploring the city...
The view wasn't that clear due to the snowfall but it gaves a beautiful atmosphere...

so glad I found my pics from a business trip to Chicago Illinois, somewhere hidden on a external harddisk..
watching these picture I realised how much I loved this city, it was my first trip to the states...I was realy realy impressed.
