Is he a vampire? A rapist? Is the woman on the left a zombie? Wish I knew the story line.

My familiarity with Korean cinema of the 60's is far from deep but I saw some 6 or 7 films from that era. I expect the woman on the left to be a betrayed wife and the other lady - her husband's lover. But personally, I favor the zombie version!

The woman on the left seems surprisingly calm here. Maybe she has a hatchet in her left hand?

You got it! She's in the ultimate stage of Confucian anger. I can tell by her atypical eyebrows, she was written to be unpredictable.

It's more commonly known as "The Housemaid". It's been recently restored by the Korean Film Archive & World Cinema Foundation (headed by Martin Scorsese).

It will be out on DVD soon and you can watch online here: www.theauteurs.com/films/2039

Definitely worth watching.

Thank you, Joon! Watching online is a great option I did not know about. I wonder if another anthology of Kim Gi-Young is on its way - I'm a fan of his work.

I support Korean Film Archive and I loved screenings in their theater before it moved unreasonably far, to Susaek. The restoration work on DVD anthologies still leaves something to be desired, but the typography and booklets are quite impressive.
