Letter to a Child Never Born

Letter to a Child Never Born

Letter to a Child Never Born is a novel by Italian author and journalist Oriana Fallaci.
It is written as a letter by young professional woman (presumably Fallaci herself) to the fetus she carries in the womb.

It details the woman's struggle to choose between a career she loves and an unexpected pregnancy, explaining how life works with examples of her childhood, and warning him/her about the unfairness of the world.

Save the children. . . .

Save the children. . . .

"Perhaps there are still children who have not eaten men? Save the children. . . . "

- Famous quote extracted from Lu Hsun's Short story A Mad Man's Diary Published in 1918.

On April 15, 1919 Eglantyne Jebb and her sister Dorothy Buxton established Save the Children Fund as an effort to alleviate starvation of children in Germany and Austria-Hungary during the Allied blockade of Germany in World War.

A Mad Man's Diary is considered to be one of the first and most influential modern works written in vernacular Chinese. This is an attempt by Lu Hsun to describe the effects of feudal values upon the Chinese people. He uses an analogy of cannibalism to describe the way such outdated values eat away at the individual. The story would become a cornerstone of the New Culture Movement.
