these things pack one of the worst bites that you can get in the south.
that proboscis, or the mouth pieces, pierce and inject tissue destroying venom as well as suck the liquified insides out of it's prey..
a sort of swizzle stick of the insect world...

They are not poisonous. They simply have a painful bite, since they both pierce the skin and cause a little tissue damage.
