Afternoon Delight

Spending a relaxing afternoon in a community that mimics a small town in Denmark is the closest you can get to being in Scandinavia without leaving Southern California. One of my favorite weekend getaways.

A mere two and a half hour scenic drive from Los Angeles, via the Ventura Freeway (101), you get to travel backwards in time and just relax, take a stroll on cobbled stone streets, check out the bust of Hans Christian Andersen or the replica of Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, have some Danish or Aebleskiver and coffee and be back in L.A. right around dinner.

If Looks Could Kill

This breed of sheepdogs, a Border Collie ~ with two different colored eyes**, waits for his master at a coffee shop.

**Heterochromia generally refers to two eyes of different colors usually of the iris, with causes ranging from genetics to disease to injury. It is fairly common in dogs. It's particularly common in breeds, such as dalmatians, huskies and border collies, like the one above.

Oh, btw, here's a trivia: Dan Akroyd, Christopher Walken, and Kate Bosworth have Heterochromia.

"These Monarch butterflies are NOT going to Mexico"

Contrary to beliefs, these Monarch are not here just for a stopover. Pismo Beach is actually their vacation home between November and February. During the winter, Monarchs like cool, moist climate and they cluster on Eucalyptus, pine and cypress trees in these tree groves along the Central Coast of California.

Monarchs cannot fly at temperatures below 55˚ F / 12.7˚ C

The words of Pres. Ronald Reagan resounding year after year at the anniversary of the Fall of Berlin Wall. It came down 20 years ago Monday.

Ten panels of the Wall are in Los Angeles for exhibition at the Wende Museum in the Mid Wilshire area , entitled "The Wall Along Wilshire."
