Bonne nuit, Tour Eiffel

Every night, on the hour, for five minutes the Eiffel Tower glitters and twinkles like a million stars. It is quite a sight to see, I think. Apparently plenty of others do too. I never quite understood this gathering though. You are not allowed to walk on the grass in this park, it is all fenced off with signs telling you such. Yet at night for these hourly occurrences people would congregate out on the grass with bottles of wine and sit and watch the show. I was not sure if this was allowed, or it was just done. I stayed behind the fence myself.

One thing I like about this photo is you get a bit of a feel for the scale of this tower. It really is huge, the tallest structure in Paris still. But it isn't just tall, it is massive too.

I was also surprised by the sheer scale of the tower when I went last year. It's an incredible structure. Love the square crop for this and the slightly off-centred tower :]

I saw the tower on a lot of postcards, but it blew me away the first time I saw it. Same feeling with the Colosseum in Rome. Amazing architecture.

Nice picture. Like the others, I too was impressed by it. It's worthy of its notoriety.

That's pretty cool, and it definitely gives off the depth and grandeur of the tower.

Agreed - it is huge. I watched fireworks from directly underneath it a couple years ago on Bastille Day. The BEST fireworks I've ever seen - and under the Eiffel Tower none the less. I'm not sure I could think of a better location (well I did also once watch them from a mountain top in the backcountry of CO with a 5 second sight/sound delay, so that was fun too...but still)...

You are taunting me. I think I need a series of these for my wall. The day I walked, yes walked, inside the tower it was 90 degrees in Paris. I believe night time is a better time to do it.

Another wonderful shot of the EF - bet I am going to be saying that for many days ahead as you present your 200+ shots. Can't wait to see them all! Hope you got some on the grassy area where the ponys and merri-go-round for kids is. One thing that is really clear - this is an area really enjoyed by all Parisians as well as tourists. I remember the skaters on the Trocadero steps.

Love, love, love this image! I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time last year and am about to go back and visit it again in a few weeks! Absolutely gorgeous night shot!

Very nice, particularly in color. I wish the Parisian officials would consider replacing the scalloped decorations along the top rail of the lower deck, as designed and presented at the Exposition Universelle in 1889. Ever since I saw those old b/w photographs from the Fair I cannot look at Lady Eiffel today and not think that she's not wearing her skirt. Maybe one day they'll dress her up again as originally displayed. :)

She's beautiful no matter. So is your portrait.

I like this image a greta deal. The tower looks golden with all the illumination.
