“My alphabet starts with this letter called yuzz. It's the letter I use to spell yuzz-a-ma-tuzz. You'll be sort of surprised what there is to be found once you go beyond 'Z' and start poking around!” --- Dr. Seuss

I haven't posted one of these in a while, but I still hunt them down now and then. I have been so interested in clouds, sand, water, and other bric-a-brac that I have sort of left these florals on the back burner, yet these flower macros are arguably what started all that other photography I mentioned. Exploring the hidden-not-so-hidden worlds at my feet helped teach me an awful lot about how to look in other places for subtly wondrous sights.

Not to mention the method with which these are accomplished embodies one of my main philosophies when it comes to camera gear, namely it is the photographer's position to learn the limits of that gear and then create new ones. These are done with coupled reversed lenses. Specifically a telephoto 200mm mounted on the camera normally with a standard focal length 90mm reversed and coupled to the front of the first lens, creating a giant microscope. I learned early on that the macro lens for the Pentax 6x7 did not get anywhere close enough for my desires, so I started poking around to see which other ways there was to push the proverbial macro envelope. Best aspect of this? I did not have to buy any new lenses, one $10 ring and I was set. The letters beyond Z ironically tend to be a lot less expensive than the letters that come before.
