Rowena Crest, 22 seconds

Rowena Crest, 22 seconds by Zeb Andrews.
A very windy, but blissful 22 seconds I must add. This was another shot along our hike to the top of the bluff overlooking Rowena Crest. This was taken a half mile or so beyond the shot I just posted. The wind up here was relentless, but so was the sun and together they made a perfect combination.

I had to do some tripod gymnastics to get my Bogen into a position that gave my pinhole a low enough vantage point. I actually took a photo of the ensemble during the pinhole's exposure. I ended up with the center column swung out horizontal and the pinhole itself upside down to get this perspective. I am still relishing having a new tripod where all the movements are free and easy. My old Bogen was a trusty companion for many years, but a few too many dips in the ocean had left him a bit cantankerous when it came to assuming these yoga-like positions.

Anyway, this was a wonderful day and I was pretty excited to see how the pinhole came out. The flowers in the foreground are about 4 to 5 inches in front of the pinhole, the ones on the far right are almost brushing the camera. I also held a polarizing filter in front of the pinhole to darken the sky a bit. Other than that, it was shot on Fuji Pro160C film.

it is very intriguing to see the "trouble" that photographers will go through to get the shot in certain place, with certain composition, certain angle and so on...
i think that is very important because it just shows the knowledge and the experience that one photographer poses. i met people that laughed at my rb67 to tell me that their digital camera will take 10 pictures by the time i take one. while that is true, it certainly does not give the same result and i prefer to think about what i am doing rather then just shoot...
nice to see other people that appreciate taking photographers rather then snapshots...
perhaps this is the line where photography meets art and pictures are no longer just 2d representations of what we see around us. they become representations of what the photographer saw and felt at the moment and thus becomes art...
or maybe it is a line where men/woman cross and leave the boy/girl behind...
or maybe i am just talking rubbish...

either way, great photograph Zeb

Thanks all.

Spirits intrigued, I agree. I have heard people boast that their CF card will hold 1000 photos, where I will have to reload after just a few. But you know, I would rather take one really really good shot than a 1000 mediocre ones any day... People who think like that are handicapping themselves to the limitations of their equipment, and all equipment has limitations.

Delio TO, not sure if you are referencing Capa or not, but his quote: "If your pictures aren't good enough, then you're not close enough" has always been a favorite of mine.

imoongypsy, very funny Dan. ;-)

I was thinking that my next project was going to be taking on medium format (the 80/1.9 on the Mamiya looked fine but the 6x7 negative/slide is very enticing) but I might try pinhole first :)

The colors here (and in the last shot of Mt Adams) are insane. An amazing eye you have!

yes that shot was over at cape kiwanda. with the lovely 6x9 camera. im loving pinhole zeb, thanks for getting me into it.

now i just need to experiment with color film in the pinhole. im also thinking about getting one of the 4x5 versions but im not sure yet. i picked up a D2 4x5 enlarger so now i have a reason to get one i guess.

this is a wonderful photograph. i love the blur of the flowers and up in the clouds. the blues, yellows, and greens are on fire. it really pops. good thing you got up there before the rain hit, looks like we'll be under the weather for a few more days.

Oh I am in love! hee hee... what a creative fun shot, beautiful, and intriguing. I loved reading your description and all the comments...
I still fill up 2GB SD card in process of learning, but at least I now have a higher ratio of good to mediocre shots, and I love getting the more artistic unusual angle shots. My equipment is VERY limited and simple... but I like to milk it for all it's worth cause it is all I can afford!

Having fun learning, however... and all the wonderful ideas and info from folks like you that share is great!
