Day's end at land's end![]() ![]() "Eternity begins and ends with the ocean's tides.”
It is hard to describe just how deeply my fascination and fondness of the ocean runs. I have lived my entire life within driving distance of the Pacific Ocean, and I hope one day to live within walking distance of it, if at least for a few years. As I am fascinated constantly by a certain bridge's majesty, it is the power and relentlessness of the ocean that so holds me in thrall. There is nothing quite like standing at the edge of your continent staring out over a world unto itself that is not your own, that stretches beyond sight and then further still, with depths beyond most of our abilities to comprehend. It boggles my mind at the same time it excites my imagination. So I love being there, there are few places that make me feel so alive. So we went today and while Owen got thoroughly wet and sandy (he takes after me in that regard) I wandered up and down Cannon Beach. It was a lovely evening and one that turned out surprisingly even more lovely than expected. We were graced with a graying sky, where all color faded from various soft pastels to a drab gray. And just when things were being packed up, a sudden infusion of bright pinkish red raked across the sky for about 5 minutes. But it was this shot, one of the first I took upon arriving at the beach which ended up being my favorite. I love how this accents the light on the ocean and the form of the waves relentlessly rolling in towards the shore, just as they always have, and just as they always will. This was a 1/15th of a second hand-held exposure while sweeping the camera back and forth for the blur.
