Remmy On The Trunkkisses
![]() Just about everyone who has come over and seen the trunk asks about it (I should take a wide shot of it one of these days). It's actually my great-grandfather's trunk, brought over with him from Ireland. After my great-grandmother died, we popped it open to find it full of tobacco. ;)
This photo has notes. Move your mouse over the photo to see them.
It's huge inside - we store our linens within - and has an original decal from the manufacturer inside the lid. It's a great family heirloom that's also functional. It's pretty beat up - it's got to be at least 100 years old if not close to it - but still quite handsome (to my eyes). Sometimes I glance at it and wonder where it's been - just on the boat from Ireland to America? Or did it travel a little bit more, perhaps after marrying or while trying to settle down and find a job in the land of hope, America? Unfortunately, there weren't any papers or anything in it to offer us any clues, but in a way, that makes it better, allowing as it does more room for imagination to roam. The trunk sits at the foot of our bed, usually with Remmy's 'nest' sitting upon it. My sister is pretty bummed out that I ended up getting it, but as the eldest who moved out first...luck of the draw. ;) Comments~ Liberty Images
