Ben takes a break at Oglebay, but still manages to smile at all of the people wandering by. Ben was a sort of doggie ambassador this day; an elderly woman in a wheelchair was very happy to see him and really enjoyed petting him, and Ben also visited with a young boy who suffered from some disabilities. Like all collies, Ben is cautious about new people (especially after a car ride, something that always stresses him out)—they are thinking dogs—but he is always very sweet and gentle with them.

Even though Hubby turned all of the leaves on the ground into mulch last weekend (we have this cool leaf vacuum-mulchifier thing, great use of $40!), by Wednesday, it looked like nothing at all had been done. So that will be happening again here this weekend. A certain collie is also quite due for a bath. That should be fun (heh heh heh).

Ben and the rest of us here hope that y'all have a fine weekend. :)

A little drooly, but there's a light in his eyes!

The Inscrutable Countenance of Buckley by ~ Liberty Images

The Inscrutable Countenance of Buckley

What is he thinking? Is he thinking, "Why doesn't she let me out there with her?" Is he wondering, "Will she ever stop taking pictures of me?" Or perhaps he's pondering great things, the meaning of life, where we go when we die, why the earth is set so neatly on its axis?

Or does he just want a treat?

(He looks so wise, doesn't he? Buckley is a very smart cat, he really is. He often bears a sagelike expression...)

Workin' The Cute by ~ Liberty Images

Workin' The Cute

For a sorta-black cat, Lucy seems fairly harmless.

Other than the fact that she blends in with the floor sometimes.

She Waits by ~ Liberty Images

She Waits

Well, we didn't buy the '56 Buick (Audience: "Mooooooooooooan!"), but we sure talked about it for a long while. Hubby figured it would make a nice everyday car for me (though I'm in Pittsburgh a few times a month, mostly I stay in the area of our little town here) and he could drive the Chevy, and we could get rid of the little truck. Quite a few of our neighbors are not only car nuts, but they have Cars of their own, if you get my drift (our immediate neighbor, in fact, has two).

We decided now is just not the time, but looking at the pics tonight while I worked on them (during the Red Wings game, of course), Hubby remarked time and again on what a gorgeous car this Special is, and she sure is a beauty.

I still have the phone number. And I can't say it's not tempting to call and ask if she's still there, and how far below $6500 is considered "reasonable", particularly in this economy. But...only six grand? And me dressed 40s or 50s all of the time anyhow?

Like I said. Still have the number.

Larger.

"Should I even ask how much?" by ~ Liberty Images

"Should I even ask how much?"

Don't you love the aviation cues were were still getting on our cars in '56?

Despite my desire for a classic car of our very own, at this point the desire to capture them on camera is still stronger, even in cold, driving rain.

The car, as you can see, is in fine shape body-wise for a '56; not perfect, but awfully nice and definitely drivable. The interior is *perfect*. Apparently she needs brakes and a tune-up, but isn't that one of the reasons we buy old cars? To mess with them? It's part of what gives us a real ownership of the beautiful old dames, the labour and consideration that goes into bringing them back into fine working order.

The neatly typed sheet taped into the window read, "1956 Buick Special/Needs Brakes/Motor Tune Up./Some minor repairs/$6500.00 or any reasonable offer/Apply at House or call XXX-XXX-XXXX"

"Honey...can we just...pick it up on our way back home? Please?"
