Michael: Reverse Dunk
Here's a photo I took back a few months ago and apparently forgot to post. It is definitely my favorite from the series and the shot that we finished the shoot with. I'm always looking for that one killer image and usually it takes some getting used to the model and location to figure out what's going to work best. So, when I finally get that killer image (like this one) I call it good. I know the models I work with may not agree but I would rather get one killer image then 3 good images. For me, it's about quality not quantity.

Here's another from the Tennis shoot I had the other day. This one was a little bit more tricky because initially I planned to bring a stool to stand on but completely forgot. I'm all about trying to get a different angle so I decided to climb up the fence and sit on top to try to capture this photo. It was definitely one of the more uncomfortable positions I've been in taking a photo but it really paid off. It didn't take too many tries to get her completely extended and just hitting the ball. I'm going to try to finish editing the series this weekend and should have a blog post or two up next week about all the photos and possibly a little image breakdown behind one of these two photos. Thanks for stopping by!

Strobist Info: Really happy to have an assistant for this one so I could tell her where to move the lights instead of me having to get up and down off the fence. Directly behind her (and slightly out of frame) is an Einstein 640 with a 30 degree grid up about 10 ft and angled down. In the top right of the frame we have another E640 with 30 degree grid up about 10 feet and angled down. This was the tricky one because I needed my assistant to move it around to get the lens flare where I wanted it. In the front we have a Kacey Enterprises Beauty Dish with another E640. All lights were triggered with a MiniTT1 and PowerMC2s.

Here's the first of a set of photos I took during a recent photo shoot with Megan. I'm trying to branch out and try to incorporate some other sports to my portfolio. One of the best things about working with people who actively participate in the sport that we are shooting is the fact that they have all the gear needed. Definitely trying to take advantage of the few sunny days we have left up here. Hopefully I'll have more photos to share soon (I'll definitely have more from this set posted in the next couple of days).

Strobist Info: Two Einstein 640's (with reflectors and 30 degree grids) placed behind the subject to the left and right to create the rim lights. Up front, we have another Einstein 640 with a Kacey Beauty Dish. Each E640 has a PowerMC2 and MiniTT1 on camera. Settings were something like f/8.0, 1/200 and ISO 400.

Unlike most of my work this is a natural lit Sportrait! I took it at the beginning of summer and have been toying around with different processing until I think I got it just right. Took a combination of plug-ins from onOne, Alien Skin and Red Giant.

Now that the weather has started to turn up here I've started to put together some photo shoots. This is one of the photos from my first test shoot (of hopefully many) this summer. I contacted a modeling agency up here that I've networked with and they were able to help my find a perfect model/athlete for my shoot. There are a couple more photos from the set that I'm not sure I'll publish on here yet or not. If you want to check them out you can visit my blog. I have a personal project that I'm working on and will hopefully complete this summer. I'm not going to publish any of the photos until the whole series is complete. Hope you like the photo and hope you all are well. Take care!
