7-UP

7-UP by Your Pal Dave.
World's awesomest 7-up sign advertising a completely broken soda machine - there were no labels in any of the buttons and no soda and for that matter it was out of order anyway. Found at a car wash somewhere in the Four Corners area the day after we got lost hiking and almost died but then got picked up by an oil jobber who actually had just picked up some pizza pies and Marlboro Lights. He shared - like the good kind of Texan always will. Long story short, we didn't die.

I remember when 7Up used this kind of art in their advertising. Peter Max was very popular in 1970. I still have my Peter Max school box that looks pretty similar to this. Great find.

Hi Paula - I've seen some of your other shots - terrific. I'd no idea this was a whold campaign. It was a trippier era.

7-Up was the first 'straight' product to use psychedelic imagery. Kim Whitesides, John Alcorn and others were the illustrators. It is often attributed to Peter Max (as was Yellow Submarine) perhaps because he was the only artist well known by the general public working in that style at the time.

I'd say the influence is primarily from Push Pin Studios:

7-Up had great television commercials too. Some on YouTube...

Definitely more Chwastian than Maxian. Wonder what influenced Seymour?
