December in Verdi Square - 5
I decided that this woman was photographically "interesting" because of the relatively bright purple color of her pants. Because she was walking quickly, and because there were various other people nearby who cluttered up the scene, I had to photograph her while she was quite far away ... and as a result, I didn't actually see the lettering on her pants leg.
I have no idea whether she is actually from Capetown, South Africa; if so, she probably wishes she was home right now, because it's summer time down there...

These photos were taken shortly after noon on a cold, but dazzlingly bright Friday mid-day, in Verdi Square in NYC. Quite a different ambience and environment than one would see in the spring, summer, or fall -- as illustrated, for example by this album or this photo.
With rare exceptions, nobody sits on the stone benches for more than a few moments; nobody sits still, soaking up the warm sunshine and enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet. Instead, everyone is bundled up, covered in coats and scarves and hats and boots. People move briskly to and from the subway entrance, basically ignoring their surroundings (which does have the fortunate side-effect of making it somewhat easier for me to take their picture!).
