NINTH PHOTO ON EXPLORE, on Sept. 20. High #141 on Dec. 18! 3 months later! It is still on Explore, at #270, on April 29th, 7+months later.

Housatonic River, Cornwall, Connecticut. August 2, 2006. Canon PowerShot #21.

The petal against the rock has a major significance. The rock is the symbol for Peter, the Apostle. My friend, Peter, died a year ago. His wife Brenda and I were saying goodbye to him on the Anniversary of his passing by tossing rose petals across the river he loved so much. We also threw his rock and shell collection into the water as a final goodbye.

yolanda_s19, I like you approach to this image... and the single Rose Pedal, much can be infer and imply and that's what photography should do...

      Thank You

This is very perceptive of you to say, Antani. The petal against the rock does have a major significance. The rock is the symbol for Peter the Apostle. My friend Peter died a year ago. His wife Brenda and I were saying goodbye to him on the Anniversary of his passing by tossing rose petals across the river he loved so much. We also threw his rock and shell collection into the water as a final goodbye.

I was going to say nice eye and catch, but that is of lesser significance than the meaning here. I'm sorry for your and Brenda's loss last year, however, this shows your warmth as a person.

    12. yolanda_s19 (81 months ago | reply)

      Thanks, Roger.

I deliberated wheter or not to share the personal significance of this simple image. When Antani made his comment, I knew it was OK to share the real meaning (at least to me) of the photo.

The sadness we felt was in how quickly he left us. Brenda and I went to the river and played some of their favorite songs as we prayed and bid Peter a final farewell.

I will post Brenda's portrait next.

I bet you were Brenda's rock during her trying times. Not only do
your words add special meaning ... it is also an excellent shot with perfect lighting.

A simple but beautiful composition, Yolanda; I bet Peter was watching with a smile.

Brenda is my Soul-Sister...........and yes, Tony, I spoke to her daily during that period of her life.
I believe it, Mitch...his prescense was definitely felt.

      saddening but brilliant !!!!!
Its a thought provoking poem you have created!!
The rose petal has that lingering fragrance over a cool cool water stream of memory
      Let there be more moments

      Yolanda,

Your beautiful picture deserves a special poem for you and Brenda

Poem for Brenda, Yolanda and Friends:

      When Petal Finds Her Rock

      Rose petal,
Taken from stem in full bloom,
Commissioned in memory of a Rock
Is sent to float upon the Water’s Edge
And to kiss the Rock from both of us
      Where it settles, after time.

And every thing -- now present
      Seems much holier somehow
As God returns this favor found
      With memories of our Rock
      To sooth our aching hearts.

In the silence of this special time
Where grief enkindles what we loved,
God reminds us one more time
That He and us will always be
In a holy give and take
Until the day we all return
      And never stand alone.

Until that day is finally here
      We have our special times
      Celebrating -- what we shared
With those who touched us so
In the time we had with them.

      “She loved him, Lord
As much as You love me,
      But sometimes Lord
      It seems so long
      ‘Til petal finds her Rock!”

Yolanda, my sincere thoughts, prayers and sympathies to both you and to Brenda. We lost my husband's Mother earlier this Spring and I know he tries to be strong.

It is a difficult journey to carry on alone when it feels like half of you is missing. We none of us can know God's plan or schedule for us or for those we love. Keep Faith that the journey will lead you to Peter, when the time is right. The petal may never be reunited with the rose, but perhaps a new rose will grow from the love that was shared and will never die.
