剪爱造型/ Jian Ai Salon
The hairdressers of Jian Ai Salon. In China, the majority of hairdressers are male. At Jian Ai salon all of them are. Like most hairdressers in Shanghai, they come from rural areas outside of Shanghai. Six come from Anhui Province, two from Jiangsu Province, and one from Jiangxi Province.

Xiao Gao (left) a 14 year old from Anhui Province came to Shanghai to apprentice as a hairdresser, he is now responsible for washing customer's hair. Liu Qiang (right) has been cutting hair for the last 8 years. He too left his native Jiangxi province at the age of 14. He is now one of the top hairdressers at Jian Ai.

Liu Qiang cooking dinner for his co-workers. All meals are cooked in the up stairs kitchen. Employees take turns weekly cooking for each other. The boss allows 20 yuan per day for cooking materials for two meals to feed 10 employees.
