San Jose Fire Department responded two alarms to a fast food restaurant on Capitol Ave in January, 2012. The fire started in the grease cooker system and was difficult to extinguish. Workers at the restaurant emptied two fire extinguishers on the fire but failed to contain it.
The fire spread into the Flu system and into the roof. Fire department efforts to contain the fire were made more difficult once the fire spread into the small space between the roof and the attic, covered by concrete. USAR crews used rescue saws and jackhammers to cut away the concrete and access the fire.
