Pretty yellow teacups at Anthropologie (San Jose)

Pretty yellow teacups at Anthropologie (San Jose) by yaznotjaz.
I took a photo of these, then turned to my friend T and said, "These are so pretty. I would buy these and drink cranberry juice out of them."

He stared at me and said, "That's disgusting."

This one's for all you disgusting tea lovers.

Are those peacocks on them?

And tea? Disgusting? Pshh. I'm no tea lover, but I'll take it once in a while (especially if it's Kashmiri chai... mmm).

And way to make the mundane look pretty.

annnnnnd, here's hamza, another tea fan! =) i foresee i'm going to have my hands full defending my lack of tea appreciation on this thread, especially once hashim comes along and re-directs the conversation.

hamza, they're little green birds. i don't know much about birds, actually, but these aren't peacocks. just little birds.

thanks, jamelah! i'm a huge fan of sunshine-y colors (if you can't tell =)), and it was lovely coming across all this yellow in late October, when the weather is hella cold as far as i'm concerned and everything looks so gloomy and gray.

These are nice juice/tea cups. I like the way this design sythesizes old with new. The bird question perplexed me, however. After checking in with Anthtropologie, I found the following copy, that would appear to provide resolution: )

bluebird setting

A vivid yellow teacup, sprinkled with gold dots, is the backdrop for a tableau of twittering bluebirds. Also perfect for sipping crisp cranberry juice on those thoughtful afternoons when the early autumn winds send apsen leaves into shimmering cycles of golden rhythm.

Who ARE you people, and why is it so imperative that I like chai? hahaha you're psycho, all of you. I think Rick is my favorite person now - he, at least, understands the joy of drinking cranberry juice out of teacups.

Hashim, that recipe requires 45 minutes of tea-cooking time. That's, like, DAYS, man. (And how do you like the fact that I inserted a comma between every single word there? Grammar is so rocking. But, I digress.)

What the hell kind of tea requires 45 minutes of cooking time? That's insane. Who's got time for that kinda drama? Maybe you or Zana can cook it for me, and I'll warily try it. That might work.

I had gulabi chai in Pakistan and it really is pink and Yaz it really does rock!!!

Zana, you're an avowed tea lover - I don't trust your judgment here. ;)

PS: The heck is "bicarbonate of soda"?

i dunno yaar... i got this off the web.

have only had the stuff twice in my life... and it is sooooo zabardast.

btw, have you noticed stuff that is pretty time intensive - like nihari, haleem, gajar ka halva... and kashmiri chai - all make me a motta-man?

dishoom!

I don't think you have any worries about becoming motta, but the rest of us might need to calm down with that drama.

Today, I was wishing I could stab you for killing off your photostream, because I wanted to re-read (and laugh at) that one conversation I once had with the restaurant guy who was astounded I didn't know what biryani and balti gosht and all that stuff was.

Vat the heck is a "booshart" now? My brain processed it as "blue shirt." hahaha.

Re. gota, duuuuhhhuuuude, I have NO IDEA. My family doesn't use fancy schmancy names for stuff.

In fact, just this past weekend, when I had to order food for a huge family dinner, the guy at one of the restaurants I called laughed in disbelief and said, "Where are you FROM?" when I asked him to explain what exactly nihari was.

The conversation went something like this -

Part I:

Yasmine: I need a beef dish with lots of sauce/curry/shorba.
Restaurant Guy: I think nihari would be a good idea.
Yasmine: What exactly is nihari?
RG: *pause, silence* Where are you FROM?
Yasmine: Attock. We're simple people. We don't have fancy names for food.
RG: Okay, well, how about some balti gosht instead then?
Yasmine: Ummm, what's that?

Part II:

Yasmine: I need a plain rice dish. But not steamed white rice.
RG: Okay, chicken biryani?
Yasmine: No, not biryani. Just plain rice with nothing else in it.
RG: How about vegetable pullao then?
Yasmine: What's vegetable pullao, and can I get it without the vegetables?
RG: ...
Yasmine: Wait, what's the difference between pullao and biryani?
RG: *shocked silence*

she's like...

*yah, yah... it was velvet-y, no, no, it was siliky, siliky, like the *siliky siliky baal* in the bhangra songs!*

i'm like...

*ha!*

then she told me that she thought she saw some bollywood actor walking around and she told me she was gonna hang up on me.

then she hung up.

long story short, Zana turned me on to this out of control good website.
