Mural @ Indus VillageShe's churning milk - probably milk from that cow of theirs over there - to make buttermilk [lassi] and butter [makhhan]. In Hindko, we call this process, lassi rairunkna. How many of you ran away whenever your mother or your aunts or the neighbor ladies tried to sit you down so they could comb your hair properly? [Or remove lice? haha!] Me! Me! What I learned from living in the village: You can sit perfectly flat on your heels, if you sit right on the doorstep. Try it. We used to have hens and roosters in our home, and our bebe hated them and used to throw sticks at them - or at the very least make threatening motions with the sticks. =) something i am completely unable to do... i've tried. my weight distribution must be wonky. the word makkhan to my ears reminds me of two distinct things. and then you would pluck them right? i mean after you threw a stick at 'em or whatever you just mentioned in your note - which i barely read. too much gulab jamun consumption. all your weight's in your hips, maybe. ha! and they would be...? you should read more. period. and no, that was my bebe [grandmother] who did the cursing and stick-throwing. but yes, i did the plucking. OMG! I so ran like the wind. IN fact I probably would still run away now, as err... I had/HAVE difficult hair. It doesn't know what it wants to be, you see. grrr Yes, what exactly? I'm always amazed at how great your memory is! You remember the linkage in the page loads of [highly entertaining] convos?! ...and now i have forgotten those two things. *sigh*
![]() Hashim asked about the little, visible corner of the mural which appears in this photo. Here's a larger piece of the scene.

I have a couple more, from the opposite wall, I think. Will share those later. Comments**** j a z z z i ***
