Indus Village chairs (ii)

i hope you got a photo of this too...
just checked. I DID! =) this one, and a couple of other murals. will post those soon, too.
UPDATE: here we go!
Indus Village chairs (ii) by yaznotjaz.
Several months ago, O posted a few shots of a beautiful chair that his parents received as a wedding gift from his grandparents.

I commented:

In Berkeley, on San Pablo, right next to the Indus (halal meat) market, there is a restaurant called Indus Village. Have you been? Their chairs are beautiful. Very similar to these, although taller, and they remind me so much of what we call peeriyaan in Hindko - I don't know what you would could them in Urdu, sorry. But those low, wooden stools with the woven seats, much like this kursi.

Was searching for some other photos this evening, and found these shots. The end.

hashim,
glad you like! i thought you might, actually.
was sorting through footoos and trying to find a specific one i had in mind, but no luck. then, i got sidetracked on boulani shots, and recalled our recent foodphoto-related convos, which made me laugh. food photos coming later sometime! ;)

jerry,
sunshine-y saturday mornings are the BEST. enjoy the rest of your day!

nahal,
sindhi sofa, eh? share some footoos, if you have any. i'm intrigued. =)

darshy,
this one's a bit out of focus, but it's the only 1 of 2 i have that provide a bit of overall 'context' as to how these chairs look. the rest are more close-up ones, like the other two i uploaded. i love the colors, too. glad you enjoyed!

Yasminay...We had a charpayee too with colorful pillars, but I don't think so they exists anymore. All my relatives used to borrow our whole sofa set for Mehdi and Mayon functions, so almost gone. We even had matching coffee table and end tables with glass tops. Masi Sakina (our maid) , her husband designed for us. They were Sindhi speaking from a small Drakhan village which was famous for making these Sindhi Sofas along with a lot of different items like charpayes, toys and kitchen accessories.

sumaya,
i lowve the colors, too. so bright!

ilse,
they are beautiful, aren't they? makes me wish i had one or two in my home, just so i could look over at them every once in a while. i think they would make me smile lots.

zana,
how much do i love love love you for the manjiyaan usage? SO MUCH. i love your restaurant idea. my dad always talks about opening up a restaurant someday, but, i think if he were to really do so, he'd drive us insane in the process.
still smiling about your peeriyaan and manjiyaan - thank you. =) and when you have manjiyaan in your restaurant, we will sit paeyr uthay kar ke and gobble down parathhay and gol guppay. can't wait!

nahal,
We even had matching coffee table and end tables with glass tops.

wow, those sound so beautiful. thanks for sharing, buddy!

as i said in my comment on O's photo that i linked to above, there's an 'obvious time and creativity and art that went into crafting [his parents' chair].' the same, i'm sure, could be said for this set at Indus Vilage, and any furniture like this, which is so painstakingly handcrafted.

I didn't even notice this was out of focus... my eyes keep jumping from one row to the other... the outburst of colours and the spindles at the top of the chair really acts in some ways like an optical illusion.
