Lancaster Lot 23
Travis and I were in an antique mall in Lancaster, OH a few days ago and found this wooden crate of photography stuff for $35. Most of it was junk, but there were a bunch of negatives in it, so I bought it anyway.
Most of the stuff we pitched, but I kept all of the negatives, film boxes (there were old film boxes filled with tiny fossils in them!), and film tins. Some of the negatives were rolls of film, but most were in carefully cut strips of four frames, housed in individual sleeves. There were a few cut frames of Kodachrome film in one of the film boxes as well (double exposures and ends of the roll).
There were two film boxes that had been sent into Kodak for development. One was postmarked Nov. 5, 1948, and the other was postmarked Mar. 20, 1944. The To: address for both boxes was Robert E. Johnson Jr., 3411 Virginia Ave., Cleveland 9, OH. The From: adress on the box sent in 1944 was this: Pvt. Robert E. Johnson 35051549, 332 2nd. S.U. A.S.T.U., Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Virginia. So, if anyone knows this guy, let him know I have his negatives. :)
eta - Fallingblue did a little ninja recon about Robert and came up with this info: "The 35051549 is his army service number. I found his WWII enlistment sheet. He enlisted in Ohio on March 11, 1943. He was born in Ohio in 1923. He was working as a draftsman at the time of his enlistment and was not married at the time." Thanks, fallingblue!
This set of photos features some sort of, I guess, family gathering taking place in the woods somewhere. Lots of kids having fun, women cooking lunch, boys in a bunkhouse, etc.
I have more pics from this lot to upload, too - stay tuned for more goodies!
