Snowflake
Macro shot of snowflakes on a hard sheet of clear plastic suspended over a black background on a table on my porch during snowfall in Toronto, using an LED camping light for illumination. Extension tubes (68mm) with an old 28-70mm lens gave me a magnification of around 1.3x at 52mm.

Thanks photohappi! Yeah, it isn't easy, I spent an hour outdoors doing it, but I'm very happy with the results. I'm waiting for some fresh snowfall to try again.

if it's real i love it, if not i still like it.
Yani Ioannou (64 months ago | reply)
It's definitely real - see my description on how it was done. I spent an hour outside to get it, which is saying quite a bit in Toronto during the winter!

I'm so glad you shared just what you went through to get this shot.... Being an amateur, I tend to forget that getting really great shots takes a lot of work!

p.s. would love to see it in large.
Yani Ioannou (64 months ago | reply)
Hey thanker212, large version is linked in the description (unless you mean original). Sorry about that, I know it's annoying not being able to choose all sizes, but I really am quite paranoid about someone abusing the copyright after reading a news story on such an instance recently :-(
I wish more people would explain how they got their photos too, I'd love to try variations on some of the photos I've seen on flickr, but have no idea where to start.

Thanks... very cool!! (Frankly, I'm surprised at the amount of people who seem to do this for a living that put their work out here for free... there are just too many ways to circumvent copyright... unless you put a huge watermark in the middle of your photo....) again... neat shot.
