After crossing the Nanpu bridge from Pudong over to Puxi.

Update:

A lot of people tell me or write comments on both flickr and digg that this is not a HDR.
Well maybe it isn't. But I used HDR software to make it look like this.

HDR or not, I wanted to give the picture a 'dirty' look, and that's what I did. And that's what some people seem to like! So, sorry if you'd expected a HDR as clean as a baby's ass, I don't think it would have been as interesting as this result.

I think the grain gives it a much rougher look and delivers a better message than a shiny world where cars don't pollute.

So, HDR or not, please don't criticize only the fact if this picture is labeled right or not.

honestly who ever thinks that this is a good HDR obviously doesn't know what a Real HDR looks like
this is over done
a REAL HDR should look natural as if you're looking at a real scene
it should show the highlights in detail aswell as the shadows
and should still look natural

Sorry, but I gotta agree with 8-bit here. It is a great composition, no doubt. But there is a ton of noise. I can see that it was done with a single raw file instead of blending exposures. The shadow areas have these large patches of noise. That and the oversaturated blues are kind of distracting.

If you live nearby I would be thrilled to see a "natural" shot of this location!

The final work is derived from a picture, but it has become something different and that too is okay. The composition also has a lot going for it. At the end of the day some people including the artist like it and some don't.

I find it very interesting that people can have such different opinions on this image. When I look at it, I am reminded of an illustration, a realistic painting. I am amazed that a photo can be converted into something like this, without slaving away in Photoshop for hours with a graphics tablet.

Was the processing unsubtle? Of course! That is the whole point!

This is NOT HDR; it's just the opposite. The dynamic range of the scene has been COMPRESSED into a very narrow one.

Therefore it's LDR, not HDR. HDR is a legitimate and valuable topic in imaging and file formats; stop bastardizing the term and giving it a bad name through gross ignorance.

Actually, a REAL HDR image couldn't be displayed in today's browsers. A real HDR image still has all it's exposure levels. ANY "HDR" you see on flickr is a tone-mapped image generated from an HDR image. Jpgs simply cannot contain HDR information.

That said I really like this picture and the treatment you used, the illustrated effect suits the subject matter really well. What software did you use?
