Beauty out of sheer desolation. Just
fantastic! Love the beam of light in "Waiting for
the show to start" and the reflection in
"The Best I ever Had" is amazing!
Beautiful images, that only makes you want to
see the same shot, done in the heyday when
there was function to the form. Here today,
and gone tomorrow. So sad to see the visions
of many, cast aside like the wind.
If god could give me power to go there i and
my wife would go we do our best to fix up god
place and may get it stated back up to have
some more good old services back in side i
loved what i saw but time take away we can
put back if we work at it i'm sick with a
lung disease but i would give my life to fix
it back up
To me these pictures represent so many great
things the people in the country BUILT. I've
always enjoyed the work of Camilo Jose
Vergara, it's great to see others that have
the vision to capture some of these images.
Thanks to all of you.
Awesome photos! These photographers have an
eye for finding and revealing the beauty in
the most unlikely of places...the abandoned
past. It is so sad to see such incredible
monuments fall to ruin. This type of
building is truly one of a kind . It is rare
in today's society to find this kind of
handcrafted art in the fast -paced world we
live in and we should strive to preserve
relics that reflect our historical journey
for future generations.
Sorry, all I see is sadness for the loss of a
better time in our past. Sad also that this
only occurs in liberal America. One cannot
separate decay from liberalism.
and people go to europe to see restored
beautiful buildings, where is the sanity in
all this? God help us when we see no beauty
in what we have here as a people and only see
the glory in the dollar as profit!
There are Historic Preservation non profits
in every state that are going begging for
money...if these photos move you, please
consider finding your state's organization
and beoming a member or making a donation!
Great work goes undone when not enough people
support it...
What a poor site of America, but beautiful
pictures. To bad we let our beautiful history
decay in our country.Over in European
nations, they take care of their old
treasures!!!!!
my sister is a photographer with a lot of
degrees. She does amazing work on people in
different kinds of places, and techniques.
These photos are haunting, and beautiful.
Buildings are amazing, and offer great
insights to viewers. I think students can
learn a lot from these pictures. Not only
photographers, but others to learn textiles
such as fabric or other forms.
sad to see our great monuments to a great
country decaying, much like our society. We
should never have seen them in this state. We
undervalue what is so valuable until, one
day, we discover its value after its loss.
The pictures are a beautiful statement to our
rethinking who we are and what means most to
us. Awesome views!
Thanks for including my picture among these
beautiful images. I love looking at images
such as these and wondering what it looked
like when the building was in use, who worked
there, etc. Excellent article and gallery.
Fantastic work by all. Really ashame our
culture allows this sort of decay in
architecture that can't be replaced. These
are works of art, not just real estate.
amazingly amazingly beautiful! it really
looks like they asking to preserve or totally
destroy. maybe same felling with the sick and
dying human being.. they'd rather die quickly
...
Amazing Photos..My grandmother attended the
church in Gary, Indiana..when I was 3 or 4 I
went with her a few times. I also went to the
theater in downtown Gary..with my older
cousin, my parents who were both born and
raised in Gary attended the local schools. My
grandfather retired from the Gary Steel
Mill..he was an imigrant from Russia. Loved
it! Thank you so much!!!
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and god
see it in our work of god house , he is
within you and i. God make us to love each
other and to be rightous in all .
May god be with all thought the holy days
from my to your god speed.
Gorgeous, very melancholy pictures. What
amazing talent the photographers have to
evoke such strong feelings in us! Thank you
for putting this gallery together.
Wonderful composition. I wish the
photographers had posted where these places
were. It's such a shame that so many once
beautiful buildings have been left to
deteriorate.
