Life Feeds On Life

Life Feeds On Life by Brian-D.
These spiders have it down to a science. Two right beside each other, both feeding on damselflies.

Now days I just use an SB-800 mounted on the 150mm tripod ring directly above the lens with Lord V's coke can diffuser.
Was shooting for the "butterfly lighting" position described in John Shaw's "closeups in nature". Sometimes I'll handhold my SB-600 to the left also w/ a stofen diffuser on it.

Hi Brian i don´t understand this "Now days I just use an SB-800 mounted on the 150mm tripod ring directly above the lens with Lord V's coke can diffuser. " Is this a ring flash adapter for portable flashes? I have a sb800 and a sb 600 mounted on a macro bracket manfrotto, but i would like to know more about your lighting.
Thanks

Thanks Bugfish! To me, it sounds like you have a much better lighting setup than me! All I'm doing is putting the tripod mount on my lens upside down. I cut the head off a 1/4 bolt and ran that down into where you'd normal mount it to the tripod. After I ran it down I had 1/4" bolt still sticking out of the tripod mount which I put the sb800 stand on(the little plastic hotshoe thing that came with it). Then I just slap the flash onto the tripod mount. I usually set it around 2 o'clock that way the weight of the flash is on the lenses mount direction instead of weighing it down on the other side.
As far as the coke can diffuser you can find that here: www.flickr.com/groups/macroviewers/discuss/72 157594312315...
It looks ghetto but it's amazing! Kudos to Brian for that one!
If you still don't understand I can take a photo of the setup later.
