My fixed gear bicycle, based on a
Raleigh Rialto some punks had salvaged
from a ditch the summer of 2006. I
began by salvaging a frontwheel from
some random Helkama and buying a new
chain. Then i stripped parts, including
the gear to experiment with a new
singlespeed, haven't had one for a few
years. Oh, and some orange paint too.
After somehow bending the rear axle near
the end of the summer, i bought a new
rear wheel with a singlespeed hub. The
bike weights approximately 12.5
kilograms.
The bike's a bit crusty, i like it more
like that; street aesthetics. Also i'd
guess fancy bikes attract the narcs
more.
I wish i knew which year's model the
bike originally was. I've tried to
interpret the serial-number, and i think
the frame is from 1973 or 1983. I guess
there is enough difference in the style
and technology for a seasoned biker to
tell which.
On 16.3.2007 i finally got to build the fixed side
of the rear hub by bolting a cog to the discbrake attachment.
I rode the fixed side of this flipflop
-setup until the end of september 2008,
when i bought a new rearwheel assembled
around a proper fixed hub.
