NYC: passive-aggressive sign from control-freak cabbie

Note the excellent idiosyncratic use of quote marks.
Again, a most interesting use of punctuation. do the ellipses mean that both the driver and the door wish to express their gratitude? Or just the door? Or maybe they're one and the same. It's like he fell asleep halfway through the sentence and couldn't recall who he was.
what's with the surcharge? is this legal? he was weird.
this part makes it classic

This group would like your photo- doesn't have to be only apostrophes. I got some good commentary on a photo I submitted.

Does he really have a problem with people stepping out into traffic?
I think he is actually thanking the driver side door in that last bit. His only friend.

Actually the first word PLEASE looks like a later addition as well. It is kinda jammed in at the top. He did that to add some warm and fuzzy.

This sign tells a story. He did not write it all at once and you wonder what happened each time before he untaped it, hi-lited words , bolded up his totally illegal off-the-books surcharges , CURB SIDE in red. etc.

I would have killed to have been in the cab the day he decided he needed to emphasize MONEY.

hehehe... you could be surprised to find how easily people use to obstruct public places by staying there just in the middle of nowhere, or more like just in the middle of the pass...

it happens to me often in buses: the guy that pays with change pushes everyone to enter the first, and holding the rest of the line back...

passive agressiveness is often justified..

Presumably this was shot in NYC. Here, those charges are standard and are included in the meter reading but are added at the end of the ride.

He prob just put it on the sign because tourists may sometimes think he's ripping them off when the meter automatically adds that fee to the total at the end of the ride.

The bit about the door, that I can't help explain. =)

Yeah, looking at this again it actually seems quite reasonable to me and is obviously aimed at tourists.

On occasion, when a cab stops to let the passanger(s) out, you see them open the street-side door which is then almost hit off by an oncoming car or takes out a cyclist.

So now maybe I can help explain why the "door" is thanking the reader -- because by opening the curb-side door you are potentially saving the other door's precious life.

To natives these rules are probably obvious. This cabbie is just putting on the sign what all of them must be thinking.

Well, I could interpret the meaning of "money" not necessarily as US Dollars... Try to pay Monopoly game cash and check if that's right, even the night extra-fare!
What an asshole that driver !

About the word Door after the suspension ponts, perhaps this is driver's family name, otherwise the door is animated like in the best poltergeist novels :D

Here in some parts of India, the handle for the off-side door (non kerb) is simply removed, leaving the passengers with no alternative but to slide out through one door.

And in New York, I have seen how people step out of the taxi and then take forever to pay money.

But great snap, thanks
