Christmas Cards from a Mayan Village in Guatemala

Christmas Cards from a Mayan Village in Guatemala by xeni.
Hand-drawn Christmas cards from a K'iche Mayan village in the Dept. of Sololá, Guatemala. Along with family and tech world friends, I work with local community leaders there in an international nonprofit that supports economic and social sustainability. These holiday cards included beautiful hand-written notes, some from adults, some from children. I've removed the private messages, because they're private, but I'm sharing the beautiful artwork here with the world.

This one was drawn by a man who is considered the most talented painter/illustrator in the pueblo. He does really beautiful photorealistic murals, and earns some of his income from doing signage. I love this card because it includes a local pine tree transformed into a Christmas tree, it includes a traditional Mayan-style home with thatched roof, and you can see the volcano in the background, and Lake Atitlán. All familiar sights for the folks who live here.
