Maluch

Maluch

An example of the once-ubiquitous Fiat 126p, nicknamed "Maluch." They were manufactured in communist Poland under license from the Italian car manufacturer, Fiat.

Over the years since its introduction in 1973 it became something of a cultural icon. Cars were not common in the communist People's Republic, especially in its earlier years, being seen as a luxury. The 126p was introduced as a veritable people's car, a vehicle that could actually be made available to the population in greater numbers, so that many families could obtain one. The production was not, however, able to meet the demands, resulting in waiting lists and establishing the car's lasting reputation.

After the fall of the communist government, they continued to be made until the year 2000. Despite that, specimens of various ages can still be found in the wild, as evidenced by this photo.

Monument to The Polish Cavalry

Monument to The Polish Cavalry

The monument depicts two horsemen. One of them a member of a 10th century heavy cavalry unit, the other a member of the Uhlans, much later.

Neither of them can be seen distinctly in this particular photo.

Residential street in Praga

Residential street in Praga

The layout is fairly typical of a street in Warsaw. Buildings well back from the street, wide sidewalks, strips of grass and sidewalks utilized as parking space.
