Aw, didn't get any of the Perseids?

Actually, there is a Perseid in the image.
View it large and look just above the
horizon. It might be some other object, but
it definitely looks meteoric to me.
Also, I must say that this is really
striking on black.

A rock is as steady as a tripod. With
digital, it costs nothing to try. Very nice
shot. I don't think I could find skies that
dark within my state. People here don't know
that the Milky Way is visible to the naked
eye.
I think that was a plane, not a Perseid. It
is short and even. Meteor change brightness
as they fly.
At 15 seconds or so the stars begin to
streak. Beyond 30, you would see the motion
of the earth, but more detail in the Milky
Way. To cure the problem requires a device to
move the camera at the right speed. I can be
done with a screw, turned by hand:

WOW!! Beautiful and amazing shot. Another
reason I can't stand living in the city.
From what I could tell it doesn't look like
there is much noise in this image. Is there
visible noise on the full size, or is that
not as much of an issue with the Mark III
even at the 1600 ISO. I have an XTi and I
get a disappointing amount of noise even on
an 8 second exposure at 4.5 and 100 ISO. Any
advice would be much appreciated, but either
way, Amazing shot. Thanks for sharing the
beauty of the night as as I haven't seen it
in years!

J. Griffin Stewart: I have a 1Ds MII, and the noise is
SUBSTANTIALLY lower compared to my 30D. I
really want to get out of town one of these
nights and try a high ISO Milky Way shot, and
see how it looks.
