Inexplicably, we had second batch of baby mantises hatch out today -- three full days after the first part of the egg case gave way to maybe 75 babies. There were 75 new babies running around. This tiny creature seemed content to pose on my finger.
[update: despite a fairly steady supply of wingless fruit flies, we lost over half of the babies. I am so happy to see them beginning to aggressively catch the their first meals, despite the challenge of subduing something almost that is almost 1/4 your size]
